FORT MEYERS, Fla. - Omaha softball (4-1) returns to action Friday, Feb. 14 as the Mavericks take part in the FGCU Invitational, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast.
The Mavericks will take part in five games over the three-day event beginning up with Wisconsin in the morning on Feb. 14, followed by a matchup with Seton Hall. Omaha plays the Pirates again Saturday, Feb. 15, followed by FGCU. Omaha concludes the Sunshine State trip with the Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Sunday's game vs. FGCU will be streamed on ESPN+.
Omaha got off to a 4-0 start on the season last week before falling to UNI. The Mavericks received votes in the national polls to kickoff the campaign.
Mike Heard's Mavericks were voted No. 16 in the D1 Softball Mid-Major Poll after the first week of the 2025 season.
Katherine Johnson leads the Mavericks with a batting average of .500 with seven hits, four of which are doubles, in five starts to begin the season.
Marra Cramer lead Omaha in hits to kickoff 2025 with eight, while
Ava Rongisch contributed 11 RBI in five games played en route to a Summit League Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week nod. Cramer and Rongisch each blasted three homers in the opening days of play.
Maddia Groff made three appearances with two starts (both complete games) en route to a 2-1 record. Groff's first Mavericks win came in her first appearance in the season lid-lifter as Omaha defeated Loyola Chicago, 10-0. Groff allowed just one hit with 14 strikeouts. In her next appearance, also against Loyola Chicago, Groff pitched herself into a win, coming on in relief for 2.0 innings of work. The Omaha native struck out seven in a loss to UNI.
After the weekend the Mavericks head to San Antonio beginning Feb. 21.
