Simon Latkoczy named a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award

Feb 13, 2025

OMAHA, Neb. – Junior goaltender Simon Latkoczy has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Mike Richter Award as a candidate for the honor given to the top goaltender in men's college hockey, the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) announced today.

Latkoczy is one of 10 goaltenders named as semifinalists and the only one who is a native of Slovakia. The junior netminder is one of two juniors and one of three semifinalists from the NCHC. No conference has more than the NCHC's three.

The six-time NCHC Goaltender of the Week is playing some of the best hockey of his collegiate career. In the conference, Latkoczy's 2.42 goals against average is sixth-best, his .932 save percentage is the third-highest, his 765 saves lead the conference and he is posting a record of 13-10-1 this season.

The Trencin, Slovakia native, recently earned career victories, 42 and 43, to lead Omaha to a sweep of Minnesota Duluth. The 5-foot-11, 177-pound netminder is moving up Omaha's all-time wins list as the season progresses, currently sitting with the fourth-most wins. He recently became the fourth Maverick in program history to earn 40 or more career victories.

The reigning NCHC Goaltender of the Month and runner-up for HCA National Goaltender of the Month (January) has recorded a career-high in save percentage this year. He has five games with 40 or more saves and two with 50 or more.

Among active goaltenders (min. 500 SVs), Latkoczy's career save percentage of .921 is tied for the sixth-highest in Division I.

Three finalists for the award will be announced in early March, and the winner will be named in April during this season's NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis.

This week, the Mavericks travel to No. 3 Western Michigan in a two-game battle at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich. The game on Friday, Feb. 14, will begin at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT, and Saturday, Feb. 15, will start at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
