Omaha falls to Oral Roberts to open final homestand

OMAHA, Neb. - On a night when Mavericks senior Grace Cave equaled the school's Division I assist record, Omaha's injury-plagued roster couldn't withstand the relentless offense of Oral Roberts, falling 105-74 at Baxter Arena in Summit League play.

The guard from Weeping Water led Omaha in scoring for the 13th time this season, totaling 19 points, four rebounds, two steals and four assists. With 314 career assists, Cave equals Mikaela Shaw for the most since the school began competing in NCAA Division I. She also upped her career points total to 1,203, passing Elena Pilakouta to move into third in the DI Era behind Aaliyah Stanley (1,204, 2021-2024) and Shaw (1,809, 2013-2017).

With a roster down to nine healthy players, Omaha (10-15, 2-10) had no margin for error against Oral Roberts (19-6, 9-3) and the nation's 10th highest scoring offense. With Cave leading the way with eight first quarter points, the Mavericks matched ORU's energy until late in the period when the Golden Eagles driving offense began to click. ORU shot 61.3% from the field for the game, including 65% in the first and 70% in the fourth quarters.

Omaha senior Ja Harvey scored 16 points with two rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocked shots, while sophomore Alana Powell came off the bench to add 14 points. Freshman Harriet Ford led the Mavs with six rebounds to go with four points and a blocked shot.

ORU had five players in double figures: Taleyah Jones, 30; Jalei Oglesby, 25; Ruthie Udoumoh, 10; Makyra Tramble, 10; and Mary Carden, 10.

Omaha was coming off its first road win in conference play last Saturday, a 65-56 win at Kansas City that snapped a nine-game slide. The Mavs continue their final homestand of the season Saturday at Baxter Arena against the Denver Pioneers at 2:00 p.m. CT.. Saturday's game is the Pink Out game, raising awareness in the fight against breast cancer, as well as Senior Day. Omaha's final home game of the 2024-2025 season is Thursday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
