SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Jérémy Loranger scored his first two goals as a Maverick leading Omaha Hockey to a 4-1 win over (RV) Augustana on Saturday night.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak as Omaha (7-11-0) earned a split of the weekend series in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Loranger scored Omaha's final two goals as it built a 4-0 lead. Jacob Guevin and
Luke Woodworth each had two assists, while
Dawson Cowan earned the win with 36 saves.
The Mavs, who never led on Friday when Augustana (10-6-3) earned a 7-4 win, jumped to the quick lead Saturday.
Omaha took the lead four minutes into the game when
Brett Hyland scored on a rebound after Guevin's initial shot was blocked.
It was Hyland's second goal of the weekend as he also scored in the final two minutes Friday.
Omaha added a similar goal with 7:12 left in the first period. Woodworth had a shot blocked by Augustana's goalie, but
Marcus Nguyen was there to put away the rebound.
Omaha was outshot 16-9 in the first period, but the Mavs led 2-0 at the intermission as Cowan had 16 saves.
Omaha increased its lead to 3-0 midway through the second period. Loranger did the honors on the power-play goal, scoring 25 seconds after the penalty.
Augustana had a 28-15 advantage in shots on goal through two periods, but Omaha held a 3-0 lead as Cowan had 28 saves.
Loranger added his second goal with just under 13 minutes left. Augustana scored its lone goal with 6:47 left.
Omaha is off until Tuesday, Dec. 30 when it will host an exhibition against Manitoba on Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena.
