NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Simon Latkoczy didn't allow a goal until 18 seconds remained as (RV) Omaha Hockey picked up a 3-1 win over Yale on Saturday night.
Latkoczy finished with 28 saves as Omaha earned a series split with the Bulldogs.
Just like Friday night when Yale won 2-1, Omaha grabbed the lead in the first period on freshman
Cameron Briere's first goal as a Maverick.
Briere tipped in a pass that came across the crease from
Cameron Mitchell with 9:25 left in the opening period.
Omaha wasn't able to score on a power play to start the second period, but the Mavs still took a 1-0 lead to the third period.
Yale had a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal in the final eight minutes of the second frame, but Latkoczy recorded 12 of his saves in the second.
Omaha wasted little time adding to its advantage in the third.
Sean Tschigerl took a pass in front of the goal, turned and fired a shot into the back of the net with 18:10 left. It was his third goal this season.
Down 2-0, Yale pulled its goalie with five minutes left. Omaha took advantage 25 seconds later as
Marcus Broberg scored an empty netter from the Mavericks' end of the ice.
Omaha finished the night with a 34-30 advantage in shots on goal.
Mike Gabinet's Mavericks are off until Dec. 12 when it plays at rival North Dakota. North Dakota took two games from the Mavs inside Baxter Arena earlier this month.
