Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Gene Schinzel

Men's Basketball falls to FIU to close-out Feast Week

MIAMI - The Omaha Men's Basketball team got a double-double performance for a second straight day, but it was FIU that led the Mavericks most of the way in a 74-61 win Wednesday afternoon at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

Kamryn Thomas finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for Omaha (2-6). Lance Waddles, who had a double-double Tuesday in a loss to James Madison, also scored 15 points Wednesday.

But on a day after James Madison hit 17 3-pointers, FIU (3-3) hit 11 treys as Brit Harris provided a spark off the bench by hitting four threes and scoring a game-high 24 points.

Omaha was up 9-8 seven minutes into the game before FIU scored nine straight to take the lead for good.

Waddles, who went to the bench after he was whistled for two fouls in the first five minutes, returned to the court and kept Omaha close midway through the half.

He scored 10 points in just over two minutes to pull the Mavs within 25-22, but FIU scored the next nine. The Mavs also were hurt by turnovers during that stretch - they committed 12 of their 20 turnovers before halftime. FIU finished with seven turnovers.

FIU took a 38-31 halftime lead. Omaha cut its deficit to 52-48 when Tony Osburn hit a three with 10 minutes left. Osburn did not play in the first half.

But FIU then put together the decisive run, scoring 11 straight for a 63-48 lead. The lead stayed in double figures the rest of the way.

Ja'Sean Glover added nine points and six rebounds for the Mavs, who return home to face Mid-America Christian on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Baxter Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT on the Summit League Network and 1180 AM in Omaha or the Varsity Network.
