GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Omaha Volleyball is heading to the Summit League Championship after securing a spot in the field with a 3-1 win at North Dakota on Thursday.
The Mavericks (9-14, 6-8 Summit League) dropped the first set 26-24 to the Fighting Hawks (7-18, 4-10). Omaha took the second set 25-20, then the third 25-21. The Mavs won the fourth set 25-19 to seal the match and a spot in the tournament.
Omaha and North Dakota had the same number of kills, 46, but the Mavs were able to win the match by way of aces and blocks.
Freshman
Faith Venable (Lincoln, Neb.) recorded a career high with six aces against the Hawks. She also led Omaha in kills with 16 for a total of 23 points. The team had 14 aces throughout the night, 10 more than North Dakota.
Junior
Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) recorded nine assisted blocks for the second time this season, just one short of tying her career high. She also had a solo block for the third match in a row. The Mavericks had 14 total team blocks, while the Hawks totaled seven.
Omaha will continue its tour of the north with a stop at North Dakota State on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. CT. The match will air on the Summit League Network.
