Mavericks Shine at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet with a Record-Breaking Relay and Personal Bests

Brookings, SD - The Omaha track and field team was back in action on Saturday for the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet in Brookings, South Dakota.

Omaha delivered outstanding performances across multiple events, achieving many personal records and season-best times in both running and field events.

"Today was about responding when moments don't always go as planned or you don't feel your best on competition day," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "The team dug their heels in and worked incredibly hard and I know the results they all search for will happen. I was proud of the level of effort that the ladies put in today, the next few weeks will be incredibly exciting as they begin to feel sharper and sharper." 

The 4x400 meter relay team of Macy Persinger, Ava Robinson, Jocelynn Skoda, and Tania Gleason placed first overall with a time of 3:51.83. This was the fastest indoor time in this event since the 2011 season.

In the 60-meter dash Avyn Urbanski finished in ninth place with a time of 7.86 seconds. Ashley Ostrand followed close behind with a season-best time of 8.05 seconds. 

Regan Barnard set one of her two personal records today in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.14 seconds, beating her original best of 8.18 seconds.

The 200-meter dash was a successful race Saturday for many different runners as Tania Gleason led the way with a fifth-place finish with a time of 24.87 seconds. Ava Robinson finished close behind in seventh place with a season-best time of 25.82 seconds, beating her original time of 25.91 seconds. 

Three Mavericks finished the 200-meter dash Saturday with a personal best time. Jocelynn Skoda finished with a time of 26.21 seconds, beating her original best of 26.54 seconds. Regan Barnard finished with a time of 26.42 seconds, her second personal best of the day. Lilly Smith finished close behind with a personal best time of 27.19 seconds. 

The Mavericks had strong performances in the long-distance races Saturday.

Another personal best on the day for the Mavericks in the mile run as Ainsley Anderson finished with a time of 5:40.81 and Renee Kafka finished just behind with a personal best time of 5:40.91.

Kamryn Ensley finished in 11th place overall in the mile run with a season-best time of 5:05.93, beating her original best this season by nearly three seconds. 

Ensley also finished in 10th place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:18.55.

Sydney Beaudin also set a personal record in the 3000-meter run, completing the race in 10:54.98, beating her previous time of 10:55.84.

"Overall, the girls executed well today," said assistant coach Saskia Pingpank. "Our focus was improving race execution while also handling the challenge of doubling back in races. Everyone gained valuable experience that will prepare them for success as we move closer to the championship season."

The Mavericks also performed at a high level in the high jump and the long jump Saturday.

Kaitlin Hellbusch tied her personal record by clearing a height of 1.65 meters (5'5"), which earned her a third-place overall finish. 

In the long jump, Shay Sinnard delivered a season-best jump of 5.32 meters (17'5.5"), which earned her a fifth-place finish. 

Emma Klein also finished with a season-best in the long jump today with a distance of 5.23 meters (17'2").

"Jumps are starting to hit the right positions and seeing the minor details carry over from training from a technical standpoint," said assistant coach Thomas Stopak. "Each week we are improving on the little things which will help to get the marks we are looking for. We have been consistently building to set us up for a good few weeks leading to conference."

Omaha track and field will return to action on January 31st for the Mark Schuck Open and Multi Meet in Mankato, Minnesota at Myers Field House.
