OMAHA, Neb. – (RV) Omaha Hockey (14-10-0, 10-4-0 NCHC) left the ice with a 3-1 victory in its season finale with No. 17 St. Cloud State (11-13-0, 4-10-0 NCHC) to earn its sixth straight win and third straight sweep on the Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena on Saturday night.
Eight different Mavericks scored goals this weekend against the Huskies. Omaha is now 4-1-1 in its last six games against St. Cloud State.
"Having eight different scorers and everybody contributing and everybody playing well, and that's what you need to be successful in this league," head coach
Mike Gabinet said. "I thought our lines were really solid up and down our lineup tonight, and it's nice to get a good team win."
Junior goaltender
Simon Latkoczy had a 38-save night just a day after earning his 40th collegiate victory.
For the second night in a row, there was no scoring in the first period. Also, the Mavericks scored the game's first goal for a second consecutive night.
Captain and graduate defenseman
Nolan Krenzen played the puck from the Omaha end. Krenzen flung it through center ice in the air, catching a Husky that helped it fall onto graduate forward
Harrison Israels's stick.
Israels then carried it into the St. Cloud State zone and dropped the puck behind him to graduate forward
Brady Risk, who broke off left and lined up for a shot.
The Medicine Hat, Alberta native's shot, made contact with Israels, who redirected it into a 1-0 Omaha lead 1:30 into the second period.
9:57 into the second period, forward Jack Reimann tied things 1-1.
Israels provided flashbacks to the 7,411 fans at Baxter Arena just minutes later when he led a charge down the ice back into the Huskies' zone.
After crossing the blue line, the Mississauga, Ontario native pushed the puck left to freshman defenseman
Marcus Broberg, who provided one of the prettiest feeds of the year, leading freshman
Chase LaPinta to an easy goal to take the lead back 2-1.
Graduate forward
Sam Stange hit 10 goals for the first time in his career as he hit Omaha's second empty-net of the weekend to cement the victory and tie senior forward
Zach Urdahl for the team lead in goals.
Israels recorded Omaha's 26th multipoint game in 2024-25 to help extend the win streak.
In the NCHC era (since 2013-14), the Mavericks' sixth consecutive win makes this the second-longest winning streak they have put together and only trails the 2021-22 team's seven wins between Oct. 3-30, 2021.
The Mavericks will travel to Colorado next week to take on the defending national champions, No. 5 Denver, on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. MT/8 p.m. CT and Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT.
