Lincoln, Neb. - The Omaha track and field team opened their 2025 indoor season on Friday and Saturday, competing at the Graduate Classic in Lincoln.
The 400 meter dash has been a successful event throughout the track and field program over the years as Macy Persinger delivered another great performance, clocking in at 57.48 seconds, a personal indoor best by 0.91 seconds. Her effort not only secured her a spot at number nine in the program's all-time indoor rankings but also marked the first addition to that list since 2010.
"Really excited for Macy," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "This performance has been a long time coming for her. She's earned this start with incredible dedication to her training over the last few years."
In the 60 meter dash, Tania Gleason set a new personal record of 7.75 seconds, tying her for number eight on the program's all-time list.
Gleason also finished sixth overall in the 200 meter finals with a time of 24.88 seconds.
"Proud of Tania being able to come into the the regular season opener where she ended at the end of the first semester," said Cisar. "It always shows a tremendous amount of commitment to be away from the team for three weeks and to return to be around your season bests or personal bests, and it is even more impressive to return and be quicker."
Jade Jackson(7.94 seconds) and Ashley Ostrand(8.07) posted their best times in the month of January for the 60 meter dash.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Grace Mustard ran a 9.23, just 0.06 seconds off her personal best but her fastest performance in January to date.
Meredith Richter, Lily Schwartz, and Lily Jackson also delivered strong races in the 1000 meter run. Their combined efforts made this the strongest opener in the 1000 meter event since 2017.
Kamryn Ensley led the Mavericks in the mile run, securing a heat one victory with a time of 5:08.26. Several teammates also delivered strong performances in the same heat. Sydney Beaudin beat her previous personal best by 13 seconds, with a time of 5:24.14. Emma Hain improved her own personal record by four seconds with a 5:27.96 finish.
Freshman runners Carrington Hessen, Renee Kafka, and Ainsley Anderson made their indoor debuts as Mavericks, contributing to the team's dynamic start to the season.
