Mavericks Set for Big Matchup at Creighton

Feb 22, 2024

The Omaha women's tennis team is slated for a cross-town rivalry matchup against Creighton on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.

Omaha heads into this weekend's dual 6-7 overall, having gone 1-4 on the road.

"Creighton has always been a tough challenge for our team since I have been here," said head coach Adam Summitt. "We have had a lot of close battles every year. I think Friday's match will be the same type of battle as it has been. The energy is always great when we play. Everyone is fired up to play our inner-city rival. The crowds have been historically great and provide a lot of energy. I know we have our work cut out for us, but the team is feeling good, healthy and looking forward to leaving it all out there at the Hanscom Tennis Center."

Creighton hosts the Mavericks with a 4-3 overall record, having gone 3-1 on their home court. Two Bluejays, Annika Elvestrom and Ana Paula Martinez, are both on a four game winning streak in the singles section. With a plethora of doubles pairings, the Bluejays are trying to find the perfect matchups as a team has yet to win two doubles.

Zoe Adkins and Keegan VanPelt are both heating up as they enter the dual on a three-game winning streak in singles. Khayli Buckels leads Omaha with her 8-4 record in singles.

Paula Arcarons and Adkins have been stellar in the doubles competition as they have gone 7-2 in the No. 1 spot and are three-game winning streak. Colby Kelley and VanPelt have also clicked this season going 4-5 on the season.
