OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha men's basketball fended-off Cal Poly's late surge Saturday as the Mavericks pulled out the 86-82 victory inside Baxter Arena, the most points scored by Omaha in a game this season.
The Mavericks were led by
Marquel Sutton's game-high 24 points on 50 percent shooting. Sutton nearly etched a double-double with nine rebounds while also contributing an assist, block and steal in 35 minutes.
Ja'Sean Glover came in clutch in the key moments with 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals while working with four fouls late.
Omaha enjoyed an eight-point lead down the stretch of the opening period though the Mustangs would hold the lead six times.
Tony Osburn's triple with 4:25 to go would put the Mavericks in front for good as Omaha kept Cal Poly at bay, though the Mustangs' Jarred Hyder would get the lucky roll on a 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to cap the scoring bonanza.
Chris Crutchfield's Mavericks scored a season-best 31 field goals in the non-conference bout.
Omaha returns to action a week from Saturday on Dec. 28 to face Mount Marty at 7:05 p.m. CT at Baxter Arena with the action airing live on the Summit League Network.
