OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Hockey dropped its second game against No. 14 Western Michigan 2-4 during Homecoming weekend events at Baxter Arena.
The Mavericks fell 0-2 early as Tristan Lemyre scored 21 seconds into the game to open the scoring. The Broncos followed up with another first period goal from Iiro Hakkarainen at the 4:25 mark of the opening frame.
Junior defenseman
Jacob Guevin scored on the power play on a beautiful feed from junior defenseman
Griffin Ludtke to make it a one-goal deficit for Omaha at 15:03 in the first period.
Two minutes into the third period, Tim Washe scored once more for Western Michigan after grabbing a puck in front of junior goaltender
Simon Latkoczy to net it and extend the Western Michigan lead to 3-1.
Graduate student forward
Brady Risk rang the bell with Omaha's second goal and second power play goal of the game. The score at 11:34 in the third period was the closest Omaha crawled back trailing 2-3.
Alex Bump, who had an assist on the opening goal for the Broncos, then hit an empty net shot to extend the lead for good at 4-2.
Omaha will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for two games against Arizona State on Friday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. CT and Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. CT.
