Men's Basketball Returns Home to Face ACU

The Basics
After three weeks and seven straight games on the road, the Mavericks are back home to close out November as they host Abilene Christian on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Quick Hits
• The Mavericks went 1-2 and finished in third place in the Akron Basketball Classic last week, capping off the tournament with a 65-59 win over Lamar. In their two losses to Alabama State (85-67) and Akron (92-84), Omaha got within two scores with eight minutes to go against the Hornets and within one score with 90 seconds left against the Zips.
Marquel Sutton and Tony Osburn were both named to the All-Tournament team after the duo combined for 94 points, a 47.1 FG%, 42.3 3-PT FG%, and 86.4 FT%.
• Sutton, who also took home his first career Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honor, totaled 61 points and 30 rebounds, recorded two double-doubles against ASU (22 points and a career high 14 rebounds) and Lamar (13 points and 10 rebounds), and scored a season-high 26 points against Akron. He was also highly efficient, shooting over 55% in two games and going a perfect 100% from the charity stripe in two games.
• As for Osburn, he also shot over 45% in the tournament and scored 33 points, 23 of which came in the finale against Lamar. Against the Cardinals, he made a season-high five from behind the arc.
• Also having a strong showing in the tournament was Lance Waddles, who tied Osburn with 33 points and led the team with 12 assists, bringing his total to a team-high 25.
JJ White and Ja'Sean Glover performed well off the bench last week, with each scoring over 20 points, with the former recording a team-leading six steals and the latter shooting 45% from the field.
• Sutton earned his first career Summit League Preseason honor after being named Second Team All-Preseason in October. In 2023-24, he was second on the team with 12.3 PPG (406 total) and led all Mavericks with 6.3 RPG (208 total boards).
Lance Waddles (NDSU), Joshua Streit (NDSU), and Isaac Ondekane (Lindenwood) headline the Mavericks' top transfers this year with the trio coming to Omaha with a combined six seasons of Division I basketball under their belts. Also new this year are top JUCO transfers Kamryn Thomas (2024 NJCAA Third Team All-American), Khamani Cooper (465 points as a freshman in 2024), and Valentino Simon (965 career points from 2022-24). 
• Omaha has three captains this year: Marquel Sutton, Tony Osburn, and Lance Waddles.
• Head Coach Chris Crutchfield has a 37-55 career record. This season marks his fourth year as a head coach and third with the Mavericks.

Scouting the Abilene Christian Wildcats
The Wildcats come to Omaha with a 4-3 record after going 1-1 last week in the Basketball Travelers Invitational with an 82-74 win over Southern Mississippi and a 85-59 loss to Omaha's next opponent, Montana State.

Leonardo Bettiol, a junior forward out of Italy, leads ACU with 14.3 ppg and an even 100 points on the season thanks to a .650 FG%. He currently carries a three-game double-digit scoring streak.

Next to Bettiol in scoring are guards Quion Williams with 13.2 ppg (79 total) and Hunter Jack Madden with 10.4 ppg (73 total). Williams also paces the Wildcats with five blocks and is second in rebounds (4.7 rpg), while Madden is first in FT% (.864) and three-pointers (14) and second in steals (eight).

After eight years as the Wildcats' associate head coach, Brette Tanner is now in the fourth year of his first head coaching job with the team. In his first season he led the team to the CBI, while in the prior two as associate he helped guide ACU to back-to-back WAC Tournament Championship Titles and NCAA Tournament berths.

All-Time Against Abilene Christian
The Mavericks and Wildcats are an even 1-1 all-time, with Omaha winning the first ever meeting back in 2000 74-54, before ACU won four years ago 70-58 in the 2020 Gulf Coast Showcase.
