OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Hockey and WoodmenLife are partnering again to show appreciation for military personnel at the Military Appreciation Game against Miami on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Baxter Arena.

Omaha Hockey and WoodmenLife have joined forces to show military appreciation since 2018.

The Mavericks will wear specialty camouflage jerseys purchased by WoodmenLife and auctioned off online. The auction will open for bidding on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. and close on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 9 p.m. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the UNO Office of Military and Veteran Services.

Donations raised will be directed toward the Robert Swanson Memorial Scholarship.  The intent of the Robert Swanson Memorial Scholarship is that Veterans and active duty military will be honored and remembered for their sacrifices made serving our country.

Prior to puck drop, WoodmenLife will hand out 6,000 handheld American flags for fans to wave during the game against the RedHawks. Members of the ROTC will also present a 30 by 60-foot American flag on ice during the national anthem, courtesy of WoodmenLife.

About the Robert Swanson Memorial Scholarship
Robert "Bob" Swanson served in the Navy from 1959-1965. Born in Wausa, a small Nebraska town, Bob served as a machinist on the USS Piedmont, a destroyer tender built during World War II. Once retired, Bob devoted his time to any and all ways in support of Veterans and active duty service men/women. He joined American Legion Post 1 and began to get involved in numerous events and projects, eventually serving as the Commander. Bob became a relentless proponent of support for Veterans and active duty service men/women through numerous endeavors. His undying passion for Veterans was summarized in his frequent declaration that "sacrifice is meaningless without remembrance."
