TEMPE, Ariz. – (RV) Omaha Hockey (3-7-0, 1-3-0 NCHC) fell 3-2 to split the two-game series against (RV) Arizona State (4-7-1, 1-3-0 NCHC) at Mullett Arena.
Freshman
Kevin Reidler made his collegiate debut between the pipes for Omaha and made 41 saves.
Five Mavericks registered points on the evening, with graduate forward
Sam Stange tallying a goal in his second straight game.
Arizona State's graduate forward Artem Shlaine scored the first goal of the game 13:36 into the opening period.
From there, Stange was able to find the back of the net to tie things up at 1-1 at 3:49 into the second period.
Then the Sun Devils scored two straight goals from junior forward Ryan Alexander at 7:32 of the second period and sophomore forward David Hymovitch early in the third period just 1:18 into the final frame.
Omaha tried clawing its way back through freshman defenseman
Marcus Broberg's first collegiate goal and point. Broberg put the Mavericks in a position to comeback at 3-4 12:22 into the final frame.
With just under two minutes, the Mavericks pulled Reidler to get one in the back of the net. However, Omaha could not do so, leading to Arizona State's first-ever NCHC win on its home ice.
The Mavericks are back in action next weekend when they host Miami (OH) on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23, at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb. Both games start at 7:07 p.m.
