Women’s Tennis adds two to the Fall 2025 class

Nov 14, 2024

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Women's Tennis has added two athletes to the Mavericks' program on Wednesday, Nov. 13 as part of National Signing Day. Grace Greenwald and Shelby Smith will arrive on campus in August 2025, hailing from Omaha, Neb., and Leawood, Kan.

"Shelby and Grace will be a great pair to add to our team," head coach Adam Summitt said. "They are like-minded and have high ceilings they will reach. They will represent Omaha with great pride and respect. I know they are just as excited as we are to come here."

Grace Greenwald

Greenwald joins the Mavericks from Omaha, Neb., where she attended Westside High School. The second-ranked women's tennis player in the state of Nebraska, according to TennisRecruiting.net, is a three-time state qualifier and state champion in 2023. The 17th-ranked tennis player in the Plains reached a national ranking of 297, placing third in Nebraska in 2022 and fourth in 2024.

Summitt on Greenwald

"We are very fortunate to have Grace coming to Omaha. She is a local product from Westside High School that has been a state champion and continues to improve," Summit said. "She is a professional, hardworking and driven individual. I have seen Grace play since she was 12 or 13. You could tell from a young age that she was going to be a great player. In my opinion, Grace is an under-the-radar player. She did not play in many regional or national events. She stuck close to Omaha and trained. With that, she was among the top 300 people in the country. I know that with her tennis background and knowledge, she will get even better during her time with us."

Shelby Smith

Smith joins Omaha hailing from Leawood, Kan., where she played at Blue Valley North High School. Reaching a career-high ranking of 207, Smith ranked fourth in Kansas and seventh in the Plains, according to TennisRecruiting.net. Smith also finished as a 2024 state runner-up and helped push Blue Valley North to a third-place finish in Kansas. The new Maverick is a multiple-time state qualifier.

Summitt on Smith

"We are excited to have Shelby come to Omaha next year," Summit said. "It has been a great recruiting process with her and her family. She is a great kid with a bubbly, infectious personality. One that is going to transition easily within our program and culture. Shelby has her best tennis in front of her. She started serious training and playing a bit later than some other kids. She already has a great tennis IQ and a solid foundation in her game, which will translate to the collegiate level. She will be a competitive player and one that can make an impact for us during her four years."
