OMAHA, Neb. - In one of her final matches at Caniglia Field, senior Meg Nemnich came through at the most crucial time as she scored the first goal of her career to give the Mavericks a 1-0 victory vs. North Dakota on Senior Day.
Omaha secures its eighth win of the season, tying the 2024 team with the 2020 squad for the program's second most wins in the Division I era. Now at 8-2-3 on the year with a 2-1-1 record in Summit League Play, the Mavericks are only one win short of matching the program's Division I wins record of nine set back in 2021 (9-8-1). Meanwhile, the Fighting Hawks will continue to look for their first conference win as they fall to 4-6-4 overall with a 0-2-2- league record.
With today being Omaha's second to last home match of the season, all nine Mavericks seniors were honored tonight and started the match as part of Senior Day: Cece Behrens, Reagan Bourgeois, Grace Crockett, Emilie Erland, Marissa Gohr, Meg Nemnich, Grace Ostergaard, Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen, and Regan Zimmers.
How it Happened
- Omaha's defense was as sharp as ever tonight, preventing UND from recording a single shot on goal in the first half. Defensive stalwarts Behrens, Ostergaard, Crockett, Erland, and Zimmers would all go on to play the full 90 minutes tonight.
- In the 17th minute of the match, Nemnich provided the Mavericks with all the offense they needed tonight when she sent the one-timer from Gohr just over the head of UND's goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
- The Fighting Hawks had a little more life in the second half as they managed four shots on goal against Maja Baun who entered the game after halftime. Unfortunately for North Dakota, Baun stopped all four shots, including two in a row in the 83rd minute of the match to keep the shutout intact.
Inside the Box
- With her 91st career start, Grace Ostergaard set the team's Division I record for career starts tonight. She is now only two more starts away from claiming the all-time Mavericks record.
- Nemnich had made 62 career appearances with over 2500 minutes played over the past four seasons before scoring her first ever goal tonight.
- With her sixth win of the season, Reedtz has tied her single-season wins record that she set back in her rookie year in 2020.
