Frankie Fidler Among the Nation's Best

Jan 30, 2024

OMAHA, Neb. - To say Frankie Fidler is having an incredible season is an understatement. The 6-7 forward from Bellevue, Neb. is not only having the best season of his career, but one of the best in program history.

As of January 30, Fidler currently ranks 11th in all of NCAA Division I in points scored at 440, as well as being in the top 50 in points per game with 19.1 ppg. Bolstering these numbers is Fidler's elite presence at the charity stripe as he places fourth in the nation in free throws made with 152 and is 36th in FT% at .879.

In the Summit League, Fidler has been a top player in the conference since the season began, with his points and ppg both placing third overall and his FT% being the best. In addition to these, he is 13th in rebounds (5.4 rpg), 11th in total rebounds (125), seventh in FG% (.460), 10th in assists (61), fourth in steals (30), and second in minutes played (806). Entering the final month of the regular season Fidler already has 21 games in double figures, 10 games with at least 20 points, and three games with over 30 points. For his efforts he has been named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week twice so far.

Also of note has been Fidler's climb up the all-time scoring list at Omaha. Beginning the season with 843 career points, Fidler became the 43rd Maverick in history to join the 1000-point club on December 9 at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. He has since climbed to 15th on the leaderboard with 1283 points and counting. If his career-best ppg holds, over the final eight games of the regular season he will end the season with roughly 1435 career points, good for eighth all-time and third among Mavericks to only play in the Division I era.

Fidler's remarkable run this year has been pivotal in the Mavericks' success. At 11-12 overall and 4-4 in the Summit League, Omaha is having its best season in years. This is the team's first time reaching double-digit wins since 2019-20, while the four conference wins have already tied the team's total from last year with eight games left to play. The Mavericks are only 1.5 games out of first in the conference and are tied for second in wins. They will look to continue climbing up the standings this Thursday when they host second-place St. Thomas at Baxter Arena at 7 p.m.
