Jan 26, 2024

The Omaha Women's Tennis squad gets back to the court this weekend with a pair of duels against Bradley University and Illinois State.

The 2-3 Mavericks open the weekend against Bradley University who is 0-1 after their season debut against Arkansas.

"Looking forward to getting back on the road this weekend. This will be a challenging weekend for us," head coach Adam Summitt said. "Third straight year playing Bradley and we've split the last two. Bradley is well coached and just a solid team with good depth.

Following Saturday's match, Omaha closes out the weekend against Illinois State. The Redbirds enter Sunday's match 1-0 on the campaign with their victory coming against Western Illinois last Saturday.

"Illinois State past three or four years has been at top of the Missouri Valley, including a trip to the NCAA's," Summitt said. "They have another good team and will be a fight for us. We've had a good week of practice and players are healthy, so we are excited to compete."

Newcomer Khayli Buckels and Sophomore Summer Shannon each lead the Mavericks in singles victories this season. On the doubles side of things, four Mavericks have each captured three duos victories. Zoe Adkins Keegan VanPelt and Paula Acarons are all 3-1 while Colby Kelley is 3-2 in five doubles battles.

Saturday's match gets underway at 11:00 a.m. while Sunday's contest has a first serve of 12:30 p.m.
