Omaha Returns Home to Face Wyoming

LEADING OFF 

The Mavericks return home with a record of 1-0-2 following a 2-2 draw in Missouri against the Tigers on Thursday. Omaha welcomes the Wyoming Cowgirls to Caniglia Field on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. 

QUICK KICKS 

  • Omaha was ranked 10th in the first United Soccer Coaches Top 25 - West Region poll of the season after a 1-0-1 start. It is the first time the Mavericks have been ranked in the regional poll since the 2021 spring season. 

  • Omaha and Missouri played to a 2-2 draw on Thursday. Emma Konsmo recorded her second shutout of the season in net for the Mavericks, making a career-high 11 saves. 

  • Konsmo made eight saves in the second half at Mizzou to keep the game tied. She leads the Summit League with 18 saves over three starts this year. 

  • Sophia Green netted her team-leading second goal of the year in the draw with the Tigers. Green is tied for second in the Summit League with six points to start the season. 

  • Green leads the Summit League with 13 total shots. She shares second place in shots on goal with six. 

  • Senior Grace Crockett was named TicketSmarter Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week after a two-assist game against Southern Utah and two team-shutouts over the weekend. 

  • Crockett set a new career high with two assists against the Thunderbirds and currently ranks second in the Summit League in assists. Grace logged a total of 118 minutes over the Mavericks' first two shutout performances. 

  • The Omaha women's soccer team was tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll after finishing third in the regular season last year. 

  • Grace Ostergaard and Regan Zimmers were named Players to Watch by the Summit League. 

  • Head coach Tim Walters enters his seventh season at the helm. He has recorded 44 wins on the pitch, including three Summit League semifinal wins, one Summit League championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. 

  • The goalkeeping duo of senior Mia Reedtz and sophomore Emma Konsmo combined for eight team-shutouts last season. Reedtz started 12 matches last season between the pipes with a save percentage of 72% and a goals against average of 1.25. Konsmo started 10 matches in net with a save percentage of 76.5% and an average of 1.54 goals against. 

  • Five newcomers join the Mavericks this season, including four freshmen and one redshirt-sophomore transfer. 

SCOUTING THE WYOMING COWGIRLS 

The Cowgirls of Wyoming come to Omaha after their first road match of the season in a 3-3 draw at South Dakota on Thursday. Wyoming opened up its season with a draw against Colorado School of Mines, and picked up their first win over Weber State, 1-0. The Cowgirls are led by Colleen Corbin in her third year with the program. 

COWGIRLS TO WATCH 

• Jazi Barela leads Wyoming with two goals and four points to start the year. Barela, a senior, recorded two goals and two assists over her first three years with the Cowgirls.  

• Nikayla Copenhaver leads the Cowgirls with two assists over three matches. The senior has recorded 12 points over four seasons with Wyoming, including four goals. To date, Copenhaver has played 1,982 minutes. 

• Goalkeeper Miyuki Schoyen has a goals-against average of 1.33 through three starts this season. Schoyen has 13 saves and is credited with the Cowgirls only win on the year. 

SERIES HISTORY 
Wyoming leads the all-time series 3-0. The Mavericks dropped the first meeting in 2012 with a 4-2 loss in Laramie. The teams met in Omaha in 2013, with Wyoming winning by a score of 2-1. The most recent meeting came in 2021 in Wyoming, where the Cowgirls defeated the Mavericks 4-0.
