Outdoor Summit League Championships On Deck for the Mavericks

Before the 2023 Track and Field season comes to a conclusion, the Omaha Mavericks have one more order of business at the Summit League Outdoor Championships. The three-day meet is set to get underway tomorrow at the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex in Fargo, N.D. Omaha will open up with just field events tomorrow before running track events on Friday and Saturday.
 
THURSDAY
The Mavericks first event of competition will be the hammer throw. Mary Fennessy will be the lone Maverick competing. Her top throw of 46.52 meters came at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational. Up next for Omaha will be the javelin throw. With a season best throw of 33.77m, Chloe Cox will represent the Mavericks in this event.

FRIDAY
The first event of Friday the Mavericks will compete in is the long jump. Carrie Simonson is set to be Omaha's representative. She boasts a season best leap of 5.63m set at the Kip Janvrin Open two weeks ago. Next up for the Mavericks will be the shot put, another Mary Fennessy event. She threw her season best of 13.44m at the Bryan Clay Invitational this season. Rounding out Friday's field events will be Milan Coggins and Kaitlin Hellbusch in the high jump. Coggins jumped to a season high 1.50m at the 2023 Central Nebraska Challenge while Hellbusch saw her season best leap of 1.62m at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

On the track, Omaha will compete in the 100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and the 400 meter dash 800 meter run, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash and 3,000 meter steeplechase. Grace Mustard (15.25 Iowa State Alumni Meet), Taylor Ramaekers (15.57 Iowa State Alumni Meet) and Addison Webster (15.40 Iowa State Alumni Meet) will run in the 100 meter hurdles for the Mavericks to open up Friday's track events. It'll be Macy Persinger (58.27 2023 Kip Janvrin Open) and Isabella Fleming (1:00.91 Iowa State Alumni Meet) in the 400 meter dash for Omaha.

Nina Cuevas (12.47 2023 Central Nebraska Challenge) and Carrie Simonson (12.21 Iowa State Alumni Meet) get the nod in the 100 meter dash. The quartet Alicia Ruud (2:22.31 2023 Kip Janvrin Open), Paige Blackford (2:17.09 2023 Kip Janvrin Open), Gwen Steffen (2:14.57 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational) and Emily Treptow (2:21.27 2023 Kip Janvrin Open) will compete in the 800 meter run for Omaha.

Vanessa Gunderson will be Omaha's only competitor in the 400 meter hurdles. Her season best time of 1:04.91came at the Kip Janvrin Open. Tania Gleason (24.88 Iowa State Alumni Meet) and Ashley Ostrand (27.09 Iowa State Alumni Meet) will be running the 200 meter dash for the Mavericks while Zoe Christenson finishes Friday's events running in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Her season best time of 11:42.61 came at the Kip Janvrin Open.

SATURDAY
Saturday's finale will feature Mavericks competing in the discus throw, triple jump for field events and finishing up with two relays in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 along with the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs. Mary Fennessy (38.85m USD Early Bird) and Chloe Walker (40.54m Iowa State Alumni) will toss the discus for Omaha. The Mavericks final field event of the weekend will be highlighted by Emma Klein (11.79m 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational), Bernice Lawson (10.65m 2023 Central Nebraska Challenge) and Taylor Ramaekers (11.74m 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational) in the triple jump.

Omaha will be represented by Lily Jackson (4:49.82 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational), Paige Blackford (4:48.06 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational), Olivia Steffen (5:06.49 2023 Kip Janvrin Open), Emily Treptow (4:50.56 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational) and Sydney Beaudin (5:07.24 Iowa State Alumni Meet) in the 1,500 meter run. In the 5,000 meter run, it will be Maret Elgren (18:20.61 2023 Kip Janvrin Open), Lauren Metzger (17:36.04 2023 Kip Janvrin Open), Kamryn Ensley (17:32.69 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational), Maya Nachtigal (17:32.94 2023 Kip Janvrin Open) and Madeline Yardley (18:26.84 2023 Kip Janvrin Open) running for the Mavericks.

The 4 x 100 relay will be ran by a combination of Gleason, Cuevas, Fleming, Simonson, Klein, Ostrand while the 4 x 400 relay will feature four of Fleming, Persinger, Steffen, Ruud, Gunderson, Blackford, Treptow. Omaha's top 4 x 100 time this season was 47.67 at the Kip Janvrin Open and their top 4 x 400 time was 4:01.02 also set at the Kip Janvrin Open.
