Meyer Becomes Mavericks All-Time Strikeout Leader as Omaha Takes Two from WIU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 On a day where the Maverick Seniors were honored and Softball alumni were celebrated, Omaha delivered a pair of wins in the first two games of this three game series against the Western Illinois Leathernecks. The Mavericks run-ruled WIU in six innings in game 1 with a 9-1 win and followed that up in game 2 with a 5-2 victory. Omaha and Western Illinois will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon from Connie Claussen Field. First pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.

Game One: Omaha 9, WIU 1 (6 Inn.)
How It Happened
  • Kamryn Meyer got the nod on the mound and opened up the game with a strikeout to become the Mavericks all-time strikeout leader
  • In the bottom of the 1st inning, Omaha tallied their first of two runs when Lynsey Tucker scored on a throwing error
  • Emma Durr followed that up with a single to the shortstop which scored Sydney Ross to take a 2-0 lead after 1
  • Omaha registered their third run in the bottom of the 3rd with a bases loaded walk. Maggie O'Brien had the run
  • Marra Cramer flied out to center for a sac fly which brought home Rachel Weber
  • In the bottom of the 4th, Ross doubled to left to score O'Brien
  • Rachel Weber scored to make it 6-0 after a wild pitch
  • The Mavericks run-ruled the Leathernecks with three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning
  • Emma Durr singled to left field and advance all the way to third on throwing errors. Ross was able to score during the play
  • With Durr on 3rd, Ava Rongisch smoked her second home run of the season to walk off the Leathernecks
GAME NOTES
  • Kamryn Meyer picked up her 12th win of the season pitching five scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking nine
  • Meyer became the all-time strikeout leader for the Mavericks striking out the first batter of the game
  • Meyer eclipsed the 700 strikeout mark when she struck out the second batter of the game. Her career total now sits at 707

Game Two: Omaha 5, WIU 2 
How It Happened
  • Western Illinois jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning.
  • The Leathernecks lead wouldn't last long as the Mavericks would not only tie the game but take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd
  • Lynsey Tucker started the scoring with a single to score Ava Rongisch. Cerveny advanced to second; Aden advanced to third
  • With the bases loaded, Maggie O'Brien drew a bases loaded walk which scored Olivia Aden to even things at 2-2
  • Rachel Weber tallied a sac fly RBI to score Sophie Cerveny
  • In the bottom of the 3rd, a Marra Cramer triple easily scored Ava Rongisch to make it 4-2 Mavericks
  • The next at bat, Olivia Aden singled through the right side to score Cramer
GAME NOTES
  • Sydney Nuismer picked up her 12th victory of the season to improve to 12-7
  • Nuismer pitched her 8th complete game of the season allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out three
