The Mavericks (15-17, 4-8) have a crucial week ahead of them as they begin things with a midweek game vs. Nebraska (21-14-1) at home as they go for what would be the first season series sweep of the Huskers in program history, followed a three-game road series at St. Thomas (5-23, 3-9) in which they look to make up ground in the Summit League standings.

Around the Horn
- The Mavericks swept a three-game series vs. Lindenwood last week, beginning with the second complete game shutout of the season from Preston Tenney, who allowed just three hits while striking out seven.
- Charlie Bell earned the win in Sunday's series finale with six innings of one-run ball in which he struck out a season high seven batters. In addition to reaching 100 career IP, Bell also reached 95 career strikeouts on Sunday, putting him within reach of becoming the second current Maverick alongside Caleb Riedel to reach 100.
- Omaha's best pitcher vs. Nebraska this season has been Wyatt Sellers, who earned the win in their first meeting and the save in their second with a combined 3.2 scoreless innings. He only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four batters in this span. Sellers pitched a scoreless inning on Saturday and picked up his third win of the season.
- In five career games vs. Nebraska, Mike Boeve has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with six RBIs, six runs, two doubles, and three home runs, including a two-run shot back on April 11. He went 4-for-9 vs. Lindenwood and scored four runs and drove in two, walking off the Lions on Saturday with a sac fly.
- Matt Goetzmann comes into the week as one of Omaha's hottest hitters, currently riding a nine game hitting streak (13-for-31) in which he has driven in seven runs and scored eight. Last weekend vs. Lindenwood he hit three doubles after previously going the whole season without one.
- Eddie Satisky and Noah Greise capped off Omaha's sweep of the Lions with a couple of towering home runs on Sunday to ultimately force a mercy rule after seven innings. In six career games against Nebraska, Satisky is 5-for-16 with three runs and three RBIs, while Greise is 6-for-17, including a 3-for-4 performance last time out in which he hit his first career triple.
- Cam Frederick is 6-for-18 against Nebraska, with four of those hits coming in game one this season. He went 5-for-11 vs. Lindenwood and continued to increase his stolen base output with two more over the weekend, giving him four in the last five games.
- After missing the SDSU series with an injury, Devin Hurdle racked up six hits over the weekend to increase his season batting average to .393.
- In two games vs. the Huskers this year, the Mavericks have outscored them 16-11, outhit them 21-18, and bested them 23-20 in strikeouts.
- As for St. Thomas, the Tommies took four of six from Omaha last year, including a three-game sweep at the end of the regular season that led to the Mavericks finishing below .500 overall and 12-12 in the conference.
Scouting Nebraska
The Huskers come to Omaha at 21-14-1 on the season, most recently getting swept by Iowa over the weekend.
Max Anderson and Brice Matthews continue to lead Nebraska's offense, with both players sporting averages above .400 and each having an OPS above 1.200. The two are a combined 5-for-15 with three runs and two RBIs vs. the Mavericks this season, while Gabe Swansen leads all Huskers with three RBIs vs. Omaha.
Nebraska's top two starters Emmet Olson and Jace Kaminska got roughed up over the weekend and saw their ERAs inflate to 4.02 and 4.53, respectively. The Huskers' bullpen remains formidable with six relievers posting sub-4.00 ERAs, including Corbin Hawkins at 2.33 in 19.1 IP and Jake Bunz at 1.86 in 9.2 IP. Hawkins has allowed one run in four innings vs. Omaha this season, while on the flip side Shay Schanaman earned the loss in both games with three runs allowed in six innings.
Head Coach Will Bolt is in his fourth season leading the Huskers, compiling a 85-66-1 overall record, including a 34-14 mark to win the 2021 Big 10 regular season championship. Bolt was also named Big 10 coach of the year for his efforts and helped Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament since 2007.
Scouting St. Thomas
As for the Tommies, they enter the weekend at 5-23 overall and 3-9 in the Summit League. They recently went 0-3 at SDSU last weekend and will take on Minnesota this Wednesday before coming to Omaha.
Brigs Richartz has been one of St. Thomas' top hitters this season, boasting a .288 average and scoring 15 runs. Charlie Bartholomew and Ben Vujovich are also providing a lot of value on offense, pacing the Tommies with 11 RBIs each.
Their pitching staff has struggled this year to a 7.30 ERA, with Evan Esch owning the best starters ERA at 4.41. In the bullpen, Bryce Leedle and Max Skilbeck have been a bright spots in seven outings with one earned run allowed between them
Chris Olean was a three-time NCAA Division III Coach of the Year before the Tommies made the jump to D1. In the final season before the transition, he led St. Thomas to a runner-up finish in the national championship series. Last season, he guided the Tommies to a 16-29 finish with a 10-14 mark in the Summit League in their first season at this level.
