Softball Continues Action in Central Arkansas This Weekend

LEADING OFF
Omaha softball continues their 2023 campaign this weekend in Conway, Arkansas at the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic. While there, the Mavericks will play Central Arkansas, Alcorn, and Iowa over a five-game weekend.

QUICK HITS
• Omaha heads to its third non-conference tournament of the season this weekend to play three opponents. The Mavericks finished a weekend in Texas two weeks ago going 2-3.
• The Mavericks took an extra inning win against Incarnate Word and closed the tournament with a dub vs. Loyola Chicago. Omaha also took No. 9/13 Texas down the stretch barely falling, 7-6.
Lynsey Tucker leads Omaha and the Summit League at the plate hitting .455 through 10 games. She has an on base percentage of 1.001 with 15 hits and two walks. Tucker also has two doubles, three RBI, and five runs scored.
Rachel Weber leads on power hitting. She had 10 hits, seven of which are multi-base. Weber has tallied five doubles and two homers with a slugging percentage of .700.
Sydney Nuismer has steppe dup big in the circle for Omaha. She's tied third in the league with four wins this year. Two pitchers are ahead of her with five.
Kamryn Meyer leads the Mavericks in ERA and strikeouts. Her 1.77 ERA over 31.2 innings of work ranks second in the Summit League. She's tied third with 43 strikeouts.
• Meyer's efforts have earned her second all-time in career strikeout honors. She has 538 and counting. Meyer needs to surpass 698 career strikeouts to be the program's all-time leader.
• The Omaha softball team was tabbed second in the 2023 Summit League Preseason Poll Wednesday morning, the league announced. Meyer and Tucker were selected as Athletes to Watch. 
• Head coach Mike Heard enters his second season at the helm. He compiled a 32-14 overall record in his first year. Over his seven-year head coaching career, Heard sits at 184-110.

SCOUTING THE CENTRAL ARKANSAS BEARS
Head Coach: Jenny Parsons
Career: 217-230 (Nine Years)
UCA: 48-23 (Two Years)

Central Arkansas enters the weekend's action with an 11-2 overall record. The Bears opened the season on a seven-game win streak after sweeping the opening tournament. They almost swept their second tournament if it wasn't for a 1-0 loss to No. 18 LSU. UCS rebounded and has won its last four games.

BEARS TO WATCH
• Kyle Griffin leads the Bears hitting .387 this season. She had 12 total hits, which includes two doubles and a home run. Griffin also has seven runs and eight RBI.
• In the circle, Kayla Beaver boasts a 1.08 ERA over a 7-1 record. She's appeared in nine games, pitched 52 innings, and completed four games for the Bears. Beaver has 61 strikeouts and counting to lead the team.

SCOUTING THE ALCORN BRAVES

Alcorn: 3-9 (One Year)

The Braves are off to a 3-9 start following the first few weekends of action. Alcorn picked up wins against Jackson State, Southeastern Baptist and Alabama A&M in the opening weekend of play. As a squad, the Braves are hitting .250 to start the year.

BRAVES TO WATCH
• Hannah Miller leads the Braves at the plate hitting .333 to start the year. Miller has five hits, which includes two homers for Alcorn. She also has six runs, four RBI, and four stolen bases over nine games played.
• Alexa Veamoi has made five appearances and starts for the Braves in the circle. She has a 1-3 record to go with a 5.33 ERA over 22.1 innings of work. Veamoi has 10 strikeouts this season.

SCOUTING THE IOWA HAWKEYES
Head Coach: Renee Gillispie
Career: 920-671-3 (29 Years)
Iowa: 91-92 (Five Years)

The Hawkeyes are 8-6 after the first three weeks of the 2023 season. They opened the year with three straight wins, including a 2-0 shutout against No. 23 Mississippi State. As a squad, Iowa is hitting .307 this year and has outscored its opponents 59-37.

Hawkeyes TO WATCH
• Nia Carter is hitting .478 over a 14 game stretch. She has a team-leading 22 hits, which includes two doubles and a triple. She ranks 46th in the NCAA for batting average and on-base percentage.
• Jalen Adams has made six appearances in the circle. She pitched two complete games and has three shutouts. Adams has a 0.79 ERA over 26.2 innings of work with eight strikeouts.
