No. 10 Omaha Set for No. 7 Kansas City in Opening Round

The Basics
Omaha heads to the Summit League Tournament as the No. 10 seed after finishing 4-14 in league play this season. The Mavericks will take on the No. 7 seeded Kansas City Roos in the opening round Friday night. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m., and the winner advances to Saturday's action to play No. 2 South Dakota State.

Quick Hits
• The Mavericks finished the regular season 8-22 overall, 4-14 in the league. This was the first season in two years that Omaha tallied more than five wins.
Frankie Fidler was tabbed an All-Summit Honorable Mention for his sophomore year efforts.
• Fidler leads Omaha in scoring, rebounding, steals, and free throw percentage. He ranked in the NCAA's top-25 for much of the season in free throw percentage. He currently sits 20th shooting nearly 89 percent at the line.
• As a whole, the Mavericks are shooting 77.8 percent ranking 11th in the country.
• Fidler notched four double-doubles this season. His first career double-double came in Coach Crutchfield's first win at the helm and home opener vs. Idaho. He scored 27 points and grabbed a career-high 11 boards. Recently, Fidler had a 27-point, 10-rebound outing against South Dakota.
JJ White ranks third in the league dishing out 4.0 apg. He recorded a career-high nine assists against South Dakota narrowly missing a double-double with 12 points. White has recorded five or more assists in 12 games this season.
Tony Osburn, Luke Jungers, and Ja'Sean Glover have had impactful freshman campaigns for the Mavericks. 
• Osburn is shooting over 45 percent from the field and 37 percent from deep. He recorded double-figure scoring performances in six league match ups this season, which includes a career-high 14 points vs. Oral Roberts. 
• Jungers has been a threat from beyond the arc this season. He is shooting over 39 percent from three-point range and has made a team-high 43 from the arc. In league play, Jungers is shooting even better from deep at 40.3 percent.
• Jungers dropped a career-high 27 points at South Dakota. He finished the night 6-of-11 from three-point range, which was just one make shy of tying the season's single-game record that Kyle Luedtke set against Midland with seven.
• Glover has taken a consistent role in the starting five for Omaha. He is shooting 50 percent from the field, and he has 10 three-pointers this year. Glover adds 2.8 rpg and has 32 assists, 13 steals, and seven blocks.
• Omaha eclipsed the 100-point mark once this season in a home contest against Midland. The Mavericks dropped 104 points and were led by sophomore Marquel Sutton with a career-high 29 points.
• The Mavericks also dished out a season-high 21 assists against the Warriors. They matched that high again a week later vs. Denver in the league opener.
• Last week, Omaha tallied 15 steals for a season-high. It was just one steal shy of matching the Summit League season-high.
• Earlier this season, Omaha snapped a 22-game road losing streak with a win at Western Illinois in January. The Mavericks also took home the Emerald Coast Consolation Championship with wins against ULM and Southern.
• Head coach Chris Crutchfield has a 18-31 overall record. It marks his second season as a head coach and first with the Mavericks.

Scouting the Kansas City Roos
The Roos finished the 2023 regular season campaign 11-20 overall, and 7-11 in the league to earn the No. 7 seed. Kansas City ranks last in scoring average per game netting just 64.5 ppg. However, the Roos have the best defense in the league holding opponents to just 68.6 ppg. 

RayQuawndis Mitchell leads the Roos averaging 17.4 ppg. He is shooting nearly 35 percent from the field. Mitchell's scoring average ranks fifth overall in the Summit League. He's scored double-figures in 28 games this season, including the last 22 straight.

Marvin Menzies is in his first season with the Roos. His record at the helm sits at 11-20.

All-Time Against Kansas City
The all-time series is tied 9-9 following two Kansas City wins this season. The Roos downed the Mavericks on Dec. 31, 75-59. Omaha then dropped a close battle on Jan. 26 at KC, 64-61.
