Around the Horn
- Omaha swept a doubleheader vs. Stonehill last Friday to win three-straight games for the first time this season and improve to 5-8 on the year.
- The Mavericks remain undefeated at home this season at 3-0, picking up their first win at Tal Anderson on February 28th with a 7-6 comeback over K-State.
- Due to inclement weather, the final game of the Stonehill series was canceled.
- In their 10-0 shutout in game one of the doubleheader, Caleb Riedel earned his first win of the season after firing six scoreless innings, allowing just two baserunners and striking out a career-high 13.
- In the next game, Omaha got an excellent outing from rookie Preston Tenney, who earned his first Division I win with six shutout innings and a career-high 12 strikeouts.
- Devin Hurdle led Omaha's explosive offense with six RBIs across both games, ripping two doubles along with his first home run of the season as he improved his batting average to .325.
- Cam Frederick also had a career day in game two, launching two home runs to drive in four of Omaha's 13 runs. This was the first time in his career that he hit two home runs in one game and was the first Maverick to do so since Chris Esposito against Mizzou on February 27, 2021.
- Noah Greise also had an impressive day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBIs, and two doubles.
- Overall, the Mavericks combined for 20 hits and 11 XBHs on Friday, while their pitchers allowed just nine hits with only two for extra bases.
- Seven Mavericks were also hit a by a pitch on Friday, with five coming in game one.
- Omaha is 13-53 all-time against the Huskers, though, they split the season series with them last year at 2-2.
Scouting Nebraska
Nebraska begins the week at 9-4-1, having won five in a row for the second time this year with back-to-back series sweeps of Northern Colorado and Illinois State. They initially began the season at 0-3-1 at San Diego, but rebounded with their first five-game win streak of the season, including a 5-3 win over No. 7 Vanderbilt.
Brice Matthews (1.272), Charlie Fischer (1.237), and Max Anderson (1.210) all own an OPS above 1.000, with Anderson and Matthews also hitting above .400. Anderson also leads the team with eight doubles and two triples, while Matthews paces the Huskers with four home runs, 17 RBIs, 14 walks, and seven steals.
Jackson Brockett leads the Huskers pitching staff with a 1.64 ERA and a 0.58 WHIP in three appearances, including two starts. Starters Jace Kaminska (2.25 ERA) and Emmett Olson (3.97 ERA) have pitched a combined 46.2 innings in eight starts, going 5-1 overall.
Head Coach Will Bolt is in his fourth season leading the Huskers, compiling a 73-56 record including a 34-14 mark to win the 2021 Big 10 regular season championship. Bolt was also named Big 10 coach of the year for his efforts and helped Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament since 2007.
