Men's Tennis 2023-24 Schedule Highlighted by Eight Home Matches

Dec 21, 2023

Omaha Mavericks men's tennis head coach Matt Barlow has released the Mavericks 2023-24 schedule. Their 23-match schedule is highlighted by eight home matches at Miracle Hills Tennis Center and six conference contests.

Omaha's home slate gets started early this season when they face the Air Force Academy on January 19. The Mavericks will hit the road for four matches before returning to Omaha for a four-match homestand. Over those four home contests, the Mavericks will face Youngstown State and Pratt Community College on February 3. They'll battle the Bulldogs of Gonzaga on February 10 and Montana State the following afternoon.

The Mavericks meet everyone in the Summit League once this year. Their first league action will be a road match against Illinois State on March 1. Four non-conference matches will follow their Summit League opener before wrapping up the regular season with a quartet of conference contests. Omaha will go on the road for a pair of matches against North Dakota (March 23) and Oral Roberts (March 29) before finalizing the regular season at home against Denver (April 7) and Drake (April 13).

"I have been excited about this schedule since I put it together last year, and I know the guys match my eagerness to get started," Barlow said. "As always, we like to schedule tough and want the guys to see a little bit of every level before we get into conference matches. This might be our toughest schedule to date, consisting of 10 teams that were ranked in the top 75 last season. It'll be a true challenge, but I know the guys are up for it and ready. I think we are going to surprise some people."

Omaha's eight-man roster features five returners and three incoming freshmen. The Mavericks returning rackets are sophomores Ethan Gaubert, Bryan Kuntz and Ryoma Mishiro along with juniors Mikhail Korkunov and Quintan Van Wijk. Mikel Garmendia, Christian Trevey and Nebraska native Gabe Whiston make up the Omaha newcomers.

The Mavericks are set to make their season debut on January 13 against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
