Mavericks Clinch Fourth-Straight Summit League Tournament Berth

Omaha, Neb.-- With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Mavericks have secured a spot in the 2023 Summit League Women's Soccer Championship, beginning with the quarterfinal round scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27. 

Omaha earned its fourth-straight conference tournament berth after a 3-2 victory over Kansas City on Sunday Oct. 15, and help from the rest of the Summit League on Thursday, Oct. 19. The reigning Summit League champions can finish anywhere from second to sixth place with matches at St. Thomas on Sunday, Oct. 22 and at South Dakota State on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m. As of now, the Mavericks hold fifth place in the Summit League with nine points.

The 2023 Summit League Women's Soccer Championship consists of the top six teams playing in a three-round tournament with the top two seeds earning first-round byes through the quarterfinals. Those teams will host the neutral site quarterfinal matches on Friday, Oct. 27, playing the winner in the semifinal round on Sunday, Oct. 29. The top remaining seed will host the bottom remaining seed in the Summit League Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 4, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament via the League's automatic bid. 

Omaha earned the No. 3 seed in the 2022 Summit League Championship and traveled to Brookings, S.D., to take on the No. 6 seed North Dakota in the quarterfinal round. The Mavericks defeated the Fighting Hawks 1-0 to advance to the semifinals against No. 2 South Dakota State. Once again by a score of 1-0, Omaha defeated SDSU to advance to the Summit League Championship match against No. 4 Oral Roberts. As the higher seed, the Mavericks earned the right to host the title game and defeated the Golden Eagles in penalty kicks to earn their first NCAA Tournament berth.
