Mavericks Put Up Plethora of Lifetime Bests at Cyclone Open

The Omaha Mavericks had another solid outing at the indoor track this weekend in Ames. Iowa at the Cyclone Open.

Starting with weight throw. Junior thrower Lucy Turner threw a season best throw of 45'11.25". Following that, Freshman thrower Chloe Walker threw personal best of 42'7.5". That is six feet further than her old PR. Junior thrower Kinsey Scheffler placed 6th in the shotput with a lifetime best toss of 40'10.25"

Rookie jumper Emma Klein won the triple jump with lifetime best of jump of 37'11.25". Senior Carrie Simonson finished 5th in the long jump with a season best leap of 17'8". Simonson ran a 7.80 in the 60m which was just .01 off her PR and finished 8th place in the finals.

In the 600m race, Macy Persinger ran a personal best of 1:41.54 and Vanessa Gunderson dropped 3 seconds off her previous best for a time of 1:41.03.

Four milers racked up PR's yesterday.  Zoe Christenson ran a 5:40.69, Gwen Steffen ran a  5:26.94, Lauren Metzger ran a 5:12.52 and Kamryn Ensley ran a PR of 5:03.10 which ranks 8th in school history. Omaha totaled four more PR's in the 3000m. Maret Elgren ran a 10:48.11, Maya Nachtigal ran a 10:34.31, Lauren Metzger ran a 10:21.46 and Ensley ran a PR of 10:06.65 good for 5th all-time in program history.

"There was some very good competition here today which included multiple nationally ranked marks," Omaha head coach Chris Richardson said. "A person can either be intimidated by this, or step up. I think we did a pretty good job of stepping up. When I read off the lifetime bests at our post meet meeting, it was a long list. That's exactly what we want through out the rest season"

The Mavericks head North to Minnesota next weekend to compete in the Jack Johnson Invitational at the University of Minnesota.
