Women's Tennis Leaves Hurricane Invite with Win Over Wyoming

Jan 15, 2023

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The Omaha Women's Tennis 2023 season is officially underway after competing at Hurricane Invite in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Mavericks went 1-2 on the weekend coming away with a big 5-2 win over Wyoming. Full results from the weekend are listed below

"This was a great weekend for us. We got to play some quality competition and come out with a win," Omaha head coach Adam Summitt said. "All three other teams are very good and for us to beat Wyoming was massive."

Omaha's first opponent of the weekend was Tulsa. The Golden Hurricanes presented some challenges for the Mavericks and ultimately bested them in the first match of the weekend.

"We started off with Tulsa and they were great. They controlled the match from the start and we seemed to be playing from behind," Summitt said. "We just let a few moments get away from us at times. But we felt confident about the level and how we played."

Up next for the Mavericks was Wyoming and they certainly came ready to play.

"Going into Wyoming, everything seemed to fall in line for us. We had fantastic energy and got some quick leads," Summitt said. "Wyoming didn't make it easy and the girls worked their tails off. In terms of level, this was the best I've seen a team play in my seven years here. We just have to find that again throughout the year."

Wrapping up the weekend with Louisana Tech, Omaha couldn't quite replicate the success they had against Wyoming.

"Louisiana Tech was a match we wish we could play again," Summitt said. "Doubles we started slow, made some mental mistakes that hurt us. We had right matchups in singles, but we just weren't getting the key points to separate or close the gap. Overall it was great. We just need to find the ability to keep playing at a certain level that this can be an expectation every time we play."

The Mavericks will head to Cedar Falls, Iowa next weekend to take on the University of Northern Iowa.
