Women's Soccer Travels to UNI

LEADING OFF
The Mavericks split this week's action. First, Omaha hits the road for a Thursday match at UNI. Kickoff between the Mavericks and Panthers is set for 4 p.m. Omaha then returns home to host SEC member Missouri. It is the first match of a doubleheader with the Omaha men's soccer team and is set for a 3 p.m. start time at Caniglia. 

QUICK KICKS
• Omaha earned a 1-0 win at Lindenwood with a goal from Emilie Erland in the 76th minute. She was assisted by Morgan Fenton who recorded her first point as a Maverick
• The Mavericks opened 2022 action at home with Oklahoma State. Grace Ostergaard found the back of the net in the 10th minute off a blocked shot from Reagan Bourjeois. OSU went on to win 2-1.
• The Mavericks were tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll for the second straight season. 
• Omaha posted a 9-8-2 record last seasons. The nine wins were the most wins in a single-season since the Division I transition.
Sophia Green and Grace Ostergaard were named Preseason Players to Watch.
• Green led the Mavericks with 13 points on six goals and one assist last year. She closed the regular season with a four-match scoring streak.
• Ostergaard collected 2021 All-Summit Second Team honors. She tallied five points on one goal and three assists.
• Beginning this season, if the score at the end of regulation is 0-0, the teams will earn a draw in their record. Overtime will no longer be played in the regular season.

SCOUTING THE UNI PANTHERS
The Panthers are off to a hot start with two wins on the year. UNI defeated fellow Summit League member South Dakota over the weekend. They also beat Grandview. Both were by a score of 2-1. UNI was selected seventh in the MVC Preseason Poll.

PANTHERS TO WATCH
• Lauren Heinsch was named a MVC Preseason Player to Watch. She netted two goals over the first two games en route to the first MVC Player of the Week Award. She notched five goals and six assists last year.
• Caitlin Richards has both wins in goal for UNI. She made one save and allowed two goals.

SERIES HISTORY
Omaha leads the all-time series 4-2-1. The Mavericks earned a 1-0 win vs. the Panthers in their home opener last season behind a goal from Emilie Erland.
