SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Omaha women's soccer is tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll, the league announced Tuesday morning. The Mavericks finished third in the regular season standings in the last two seasons.
Returning players,
Sophia Green and
Grace Ostergaard, were named Preseason Players to Watch.
Last season, the Mavericks finished with a 9-8-2 record. It was the most single-season wins in the program's Division I history. With a 6-3-0 finish in league action, Omaha earned its second straight appearance in the Summit League Tournament.
The Mavericks earned non-conference wins vs. Northern Iowa and Nebraska last season. They also handed losses to league members Western Illinois, St. Thomas, Oral Roberts, North Dakota State, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
Omaha was led by Preseason Players to Watch,
Sophia Green and
Grace Ostergaard.
Green led the Mavericks with 13 points on six goals and one assist. She went on a four-match scoring streak spanning Oct. 22 through Oct. 31 to close the regular season. Green was the 2020 Newcomer of the Year, All-Summit-Second Team, and All-Summit Newcomer Team Selection.
Ostergaard was a 2021 All-Summit Second Team selection. She started all 19 matches last season. Ostergaard tallied five points on one goal and three assists for the Mavericks.
Omaha opens the regular season this week vs. Oklahoma State. The Mavericks and Cowgirls kickoff at 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field.
