Mavericks, Bluejays Set For Crosstown Meeting

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball is set to meet crosstown rival Creighton Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 5 p.m at the Creighton Sports Complex. The Mavericks are coming off a 2-1 weekend at St. Thomas and prepare for their final non-conference game of the 2022 season.

  • The Mavericks earned two wins at St. Thomas over the weekend. They picked up a 2-1 in in game one followed by an 8-0 shutout in game two.
  • Kamryn Meyer set a new single-game program record with 18 strikeouts in game one vs. the Tommies. The record was previously set in 2004 in a 12-inning 3-2 Omaha win.
  • Meyer picked up her 14th win and ninth shutout of the year in game three. She retired another eight batters in four innings of work. Meyer's efforts secured her fourth Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
  • Izzy Eltze had a dominant weekend at the plate. She led off games one and two with solo home runs on the first pitch of each game.
  • Jaelle Johnson made the most of her first career start in game three vs. the Tommies. She went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs and a RBI.
  • Meyer continues to rank in the top-25 nationally. Her nine shutouts sits third, 3.52 hits allowed per seven innings ranks eighth, 11.2 strikeouts per seven innings ranks 13th, and 1.31 ERA ranks 17th. She is the league leader in all of those categories.
  • Meyer also leads the league with 186 strikeouts. She ranks 27th nationally.
  • Her 185 stikeouts makes her the program's Division I single-season record holder. The previous record was 180 set in 2014.
  • The Mavericks have 12 shutouts so far this season. They're second behind South Dakota State with 14 and rank 15th in the NCAA.

Scouting the Creighton Bluejays
Creighton is 14-20 overall and 4-12 in Big East play heading into the midweek meeting. The Bluejays have struggled at home posting only a 2-7 record on their home turf. Over their 34 games played, the Blujays are hitting .296 as a team. They've notched 52 doubles, six triples, and 32 homers to date.

Bluejays to Watch
  • Kailey Wilson leads Creighton at the plate. She's hitting .421 on the year with a team-best 11 doubles. She also has seven homers, 23 RBI and 17 runs scored.
  • Mikayla Santa Cruz has made 19 appearances and 12 starts in the circle for Creighton. She's posted a 5-7 record with a 4.79 ERA. Santa Cruz leads the Bluejays with 71 strikeouts over 80.1 innings of work.

Series History
Creighton leads the all-times series 29-12. The teams split last season's series. The Bluejays took a 4-2 in in game one, while the Mavericks took game two 3-2 in extra innings.
