Mavericks Host Bison For Home Action

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks host the Bison of North Dakota State for another home weekend of Summit League softball action. Omaha and NDSU will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon followed by a single-game Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Both teams posted a 1-2 record over the first weekend. Omaha snuck a win out vs. the defending champions South Dakota State, while NDSU took one against South Dakota.

  • Omaha earned its first league win in the opening game of Summit League play vs. South Dakota State. The winning run was tallied on an error, while Izzy Eltze doubled the lead with a solo homer. It marked her fifth of the season.
  • Eltze's five home runs on the year is tied third in the Summit League.
  • Kamryn Meyer retired eight batters on her way to her seventh win and sixth shutout of the season.
  • The Mavericks have posted nine total shutouts on the season ranking 21st in the country. Omaha also ranks in the top-100 in doubles per game, ERA, and fielding percentage.
  • Meyer's dominance in the circle continues. She leads the league in ERA and is 41st in the nation at 1.51 over 74 innings pitched.
  • Meyer is second in the league and 32nd in the country with 115 strikeouts. She's first in the Summit League and 14th in the nation with 10.8 strikeouts per seven innings.
  • Meyer has five games on the strikeouts single-game high list. She posted a career-high 15 strikeouts vs. Boise State for second-most this season. She retired another 14 vs. Georgetown for third, 12 vs. Central Arkansas for fifth, 11 vs. UTSA for seventh, and 10 vs. Georgia Southern for eighth.
  • Jamie White leads the Mavericks hitting .427 over 50 appearances at the plate. It is second-best in the league. 
  • White's on-base percentage (.581) also leads the league. She ranks 12th in the country.

Scouting North Dakota State
The Bison are 19-15 overall heading into the weekend and sit at 1-2 in league play. NDSU took a 7-1 win vs. South Dakota in the second game of last weekend's series and look to rebound in the standings following a 5-4 and 8-1 loss to the Coyotes. The Bison faced a tough non-conference slate facing ranked opponents in Oregon and Oregon State. They opened their season outscoring their opponents 49-24 in the first five games highlighted by a 17-2 win at Santa Barbara. NDSU was tabbed second in the Summit League preseason poll receiving one first-place vote. 

Bison To Watch
  • Dez Cardenas leads the Bison at the plate hitting .343 over 108 at-bats. She has 10 doubles, one homer, 22 runs scored, and 20 RBI. Cardenas is 5-for-6 on stolen bases.
  • In the circle, Paige Vargas leads the Bison. Over 20 appearances, she has made 16 started and tossed 13 complete games. She leads the pitching staff with a 2.40 ERA and 100 strikeouts.

Series History
Omaha leads the all-time series 43-27. The Mavericks won two of the three regular season games last year. Eltze hit a two-run homer in Omaha's 8-0 win, while Meyer and Sydney Hampton each earned wins in the circle.
