The Basics
The Mavericks will play in the Florida Spring games this weekend in a five-game schedule. Omaha will take on Central Michigan and Georgetown on Friday, Southern Mississippi and Radford on Saturday, and Georgia Southern on Sunday.
 
Leading Off

• Omaha improved to 8-5 over the weekend at the Michelle Short Memorial Classic following three straight wins to cap the tournament.
• The weekend started with a 6-3 loss to Saint Louis before the Mavericks rebounded to win the next three. Omaha run-ruled Arkansas – Pine Bluff, 8-0. They followed it up with redemption vs. the Billikens, 3-2. The tournament ended with a 1-0 shutout vs. Central Arkansas.
• Kamryn Meyer picked up a win vs. UCA with 12 strikeouts. She totaled 26 total strikeouts over three appearances.
• Meyer earned her first save of the year with six retired batters in Omaha's 3-2 win over Saint Louis.
• Jamie White hit a solo home run vs. UCA helping Omaha to the 1-0 shutout to wrap the tournament.
• Omaha now has five shutouts this season.
• The Mavericks won four straight games at the Incarnate Word Tournament last week to improve to 5-4 overall.
• The weekend opened with a 1-0 shutout vs. Boise State. Meyer gave up only one hit and retired a career-high 15 batters.
• The Mavericks then downed Incarnate Word 4-0 and UTSA 5-0 for three straight shutouts.
• Meyer punched her ticket for Pitcher of the Week with a no-hitter vs. UTSA. She also tallied 11 strikeouts.
• The Mavericks closed the weekend with a 7-2 win vs. Incarnate Word. Omaha exploded for 12 hits highlighted by a two-run blast from White.
• The Mavericks were picked fourth in the 2022 Preseason Poll earlier this week behind South Dakota State, North Dakota State, and Kansas City.
• White and Meyer were tabbed Preseason Players to Watch.
• The Mavericks finished last season 20-28 overall and 12-11 in league play. Omaha earned the No. 2 seed in the league tournament and made their first appearance in the championship game in the DI era.

 
Scouting Central Michigan
Central Michigan is 4-4 heading into the weekend. The Chippewas opened 2022 action at the WKU Hilltopper Classic finishing 2-3 with wins vs. Bellarmine. They tallied another two wins last weekend vs. Maryland and Dartmouth. CMU was tabbed seventh in the MAC Preseason Poll after posting a 20-28 overall record in 2021. They finished 18-20 in MAC action.
 
Chippewas to Watch

• Shannon Stein leads CMU at the plate hitting .450 over seven games. She has nine hits, including two doubles and three homers. Stein also leads the team with nine RBI and six runs.
• Grace Lehto has a 1.16 ERA over five appearances and four starts in the circle for the Chippewas. Over 23.1 innings pitched, Lehto has retired 26 batters. She is 2-2 entering the weekend's action.

This marks the first meeting between the Mavericks and Chippewas.
 
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas are 7-7 overall before heading to the Spring Games. They earned their first win of the year vs. East Carolina in the opening tournament of 2022. Georgetown has won six of its last eight games. The Hoyas were tabbed ninth in the Big East preseason poll. They didn't take the field last season due to COVID and resume play for the first time since 2020.
 
Hoyas to Watch

• Alyssa Chavez leads Georgetown in the batter's box. She's hitting .400 over 14 games and has 16 hits, including a double and three homers. She leads the team with 14 RBI . She also has eight runs.
• Kayla Dunn has made eight appearances and five starts in the circle. She leads the Hoyas with a 1.32 ERA and is 4-0 on the year. Over 38.0 innings pitched, Dunn has retired 52 batters and holds her opponents to .181 at the plate.

Georgetown leads the all-time series 1-0. The Mavericks and Hoyas met for the first time in the 2015 season.
 
Scouting Southern Mississippi
The Golden Eagles are 12-5 overall to start 2022 play. They've won eight of their last ten games. Last weekend, Southern Miss downed Alcorn State twice and Evansville once to finish the Hub City Challenge 3-1. Earlier this week, the Eagles took a 5-4 win over No. 4 Florida. They were tabbed ninth in the C-USA Preseason Poll earlier this year.
 
Bears to Watch

• Tata Davis leads the Eagles at the plate hitting .364 over 17 games. She has a team-leading 20 hits, including five doubles and two homers. Davis has tallied 15 RBI and 12 runs scored.
• In the circle, Morgan Leinstock leads the Eagles with a 1.77 ERA over 12 appearances and nine starts. She has pitched eight complete games helping her to a 7-1 record. Over 67.1 innings pitched, Leinstock has 66 strikeouts.

Scouting Radford
The Highlanders are 5-5 heading into the Spring games. They earned a win vs. Tennessee Tech in their last game. Radford also has wins vs. SIUE, Georgia Southern, and ETSU to start 2022 action. Radford was selected fifth in the Big South preseason poll. The Highlanders finished 2021 22-32 overall and 11-10 in league play.
 
Highlanders to Watch

• Cori McMilan leads the Highlanders at the plate hitting .387 over 10 games. She has 12 hits, including three doubles and five home runs. McMilan has 11 RBI and seven runs. She also leads the team with three stolen bases.
• Jessie Marvin has made five appearances and four starts for Radford in the circle. She is 2-2 with a 3.17 ERA. Over 28.2 innings of work, Marvin has 18 strikeouts.

Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles are 4-6 overall and have dropped their last four games. Georgia Southern has wins vs. Maine, ETSU, Radford, and Binghamton to start 2022 action. The Eagles were picked eighth in the Sun Belt preseason poll. They finished last season at the 17-26 overall mark with nine wins in conference play.
 
Eagles to Watch

• Faith Shirley is hitting .433 over 10 games at the plate. She has a team-leading 13 hits with four doubles and five homers. Shirley also has 13 RBI and eight runs.
• Kastin Belogorska has made seven appearances and three starts in the circle. She has a 4.89 ERA and over 24.1 innings pitched she has 14 strikeouts.
