Omaha, Neb.- Omaha women's golf head coach Seth Porter announced Wednesday the signing of Macarena Garcia. The native of Salamanca, Spain will join the Mavericks as a freshman in the fall of 2022.
"We are very excited to sign a player of Macarena's caliber," Porter said. "She comes with lots of experience not only in in Spain, but throughout Europe as a member of the Spanish National Team. Not only is she a talented player, but a great person. We are looking forward to her infectious personality having a positive impact on our program. We can't wait to add her to the roster in the fall and will look forward to her career as a Maverick."
"The coaches and teammates are very nice," Garcia said. "I can't wait to be a part of the Maverick spirit and discover my dream major at Omaha."
Garcia comes to Omaha after competing in the under-18 European Golf circuit last season. In six tournaments, she averaged 82.8 strokes per round. Garcia finished with a season-high 19th place at the Copa Federacion Riojana de Golf 2021. She has competed in 11 European Golf tournaments since 2019, earning a stroke-average of 82.57 in her junior career.
Macarena will be the second in her family to play college golf in America. Her sister, Carlota Garcia, is a sophomore at South Alabama.
The Mavericks are back in action at the Islander Classic at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Action tees-off at 8:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 21-22.
