In his first season as head coach, Porter posted the eighth-best season scoring average in program history at 305.3. The team saw early success, tying for first place at the UNO Invitational at Arborlinks Golf Course in Nebraska City, Nebraska (Sept. 16, 2014). Later that year, the Mavericks took first place again, this time at the South Dakota Coyote Classic in Sioux City, S.D. (Sept. 30, 2014). The season ended with an eighth-place finish at the Summit League Tournament, and a second team All-Summit League selection in Karl Kreiser. 

In his second year as coach of the men’s team, Porter led the Mavericks to a runner-up finish at the Summit League Tournament, their best placing ever in the conference’s main event. Omaha’s Kevin Gordon was crowned Summit League Tournament Most Valuable Player and was named to the Summit League All-Tournament team along with teammate Ben Maskus.  

As a third-year coach, Porter led the men’s program to its fourth-best season scoring average at 303.2. That season, the team took 13th place at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, scoring 870 at Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, North Carolina (Aug. 23-25, 2016). That score stands as the fourth best 54-hole tournament score in program history. In addition to coaching the men’s team, Porter was tasked with the role of women’s head coach. In his first season leading the Lady Mavericks, the team posted the sixth-best season scoring average in program history at 321.6. Megan Vetrovsky set the record with a season scoring average of 76.7 that still stands as the best season average in program history, 

In the 2017-18 season, Porter led the Mavericks men’s golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Summit League Tournament, with Thirawat Chantrakantanond being named to the Summit League All-Tournament team. On the women’s side, the team saw its fifth-best season scoring average in program history at 321.1. The women also took seventh at the Summit League Tournament, with Jordan York posting a 71 (-1) in the third round of the tournament, the fifth best single-round score in Maverick's history. 

The 2018-19 season started with the men’s golf team posting its third best single-round score in program history. Omaha notched a 280 in the second round of the Derek Dolenc Invitational at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois (Sept. 24, 2018). In the third round of that tournament, Kevin Gordon shot a 66 (-5), the third lowest round score in Maverick history. The record would be broken a month later, when Witchayapat Sinsrang scored a 65 (-6) to set the best single-round score in program history at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, N.C. (Oct. 23, 2018). The season would end with a sixth-place finish at the Summit League Tournament, and the best season scoring average in team history with a 297.1 over 31 rounds. That record would be broken the next season. Sinsrang would be named to the second team All-Summit League. The women took eighth at the Summit League Tournament, posting the fourth best scoring average in their program history with a 319.5. 

The 2019-20 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The men’s team recorded what currently stands as the best 54-hole tournament score in program history. The Mavericks notched an 848 (-16) at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at the Colorado National Golf Course in Erie, Colo. (Oct. 7-8,2019). Just before the season was canceled, the Mavericks took first place at the Joust at Goose Creek in Jurupa Valley, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2020). The season would end with the Mavericks posting the best season-scoring average in team history with a 294.8. Witchayapat Sinsrang averaged 71.9 throughout 2019-20, the best scoring average in program history. 

In 2020-21, Porter led the women’s team to five runner-up finishes. On the men’s side, Josh Peters earned Summit League Academic All-League honors at the end of the season. 

Last season, Porter helped the men’s team to its third-best season in program history in terms of scoring average with a 298.9. At the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate, the Mavericks scored their best 36-hole tournament total with a 589 over two rounds at the Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo. (Mar. 21-22, 2022). The women posted a team scoring average of 315.4 per round, the best average in program history. Jinna Boonbumroongsuk notched a 77.4 scoring average, ranking number two on the all-time list. She added that to her career total of 79.0 for the best career scoring average in program history. 

Seth Porter enters his ninth season as head coach of the Omaha Men's Golf program and seventh season with the Women's Golf program in 2022.

Porter joined the Mavericks in July of 2011 as the assistant coach for the golf program and was elevated to the position of head coach for the men's team in 2014.  Beginning with the 2016-17 season, Porter was elevated to head coach of both the men's and women's teams.

Porter came to UNO from Sun City, Ariz. where he was the assistant professional at the Union Hills Country Club.  Prior to that, he spent two years as the assistant pro at Granite Falls Golf Club in Surprise, Ariz.

Porter was a four-year letter winner at Nebraska from 1999-2003 and played in the 1999 NCAA National Championships at Hazeltine Country Club.  While at Nebraska, he also qualified for the U.S. Amateur, reaching the Round of 16.  From 2003-06, he competed professionally on The Gateway and Canadian Tours.  He was the Nebraska Amateur Player of the Year in 1995 and 1996. 

Porter graduated from Nebraska with a degree in business administration in 2002.

He and his wife, Kerri, have three children:  daughters Ella and Emory and son, Bowen.
