The Omaha Women's Tennis team has signed Khayli Buckels for the 2023-24 season on National Signing Day.
"I am thrilled to have Khayli coming to Omaha next year. I noticed her this summer out at some tournaments and found myself watching her more and more each time. She is a very solid tennis player who is incredibly athletic. She can combine those and become a difficult matchup for opponents," Omaha head coach
Adam Summitt said.
Buckels, a native of Ballwin, Missouri, is set to join the Mavericks after she wraps up high school at Parkway South High School. A four-year letter winner for the Patriots, Buckels has no shortage of impressive feats from her prep days. The soon-to-be Maverick finished her Senior campaign with a perfect 20-0 record as the District Champion while placing 2nd at Districts, going 14-14 on the season in Doubles.
"She is a driven player that is working hard to be a better player and wants to continue that at the next level Including recently picking up some of her biggest wins against higher ranked opponents," Summitt said "She checked all my boxes on what we want in a recruit. She is humble, very personable, and coachable. She is going to fit in well with our team, both on and off the court."
After her Junior season, she was named All-Conference in Suburban Conference red pool and was a finalist for 2021 All-Metro Girls First Team in singles. Buckels wrapped up here Sophomore season going 5-6 and won a District Championship in singles while being named to the All-Metro Girls Tennis Second Team. She finished her Freshman year by being named to the 2019 All-Conference Girls Tennis Team and was a District Doubles Champion. She finished her rookie season by going 10-7-1.
"I chose the University of Nebraska Omaha because I thrive on close relationships and seek a well-rounded education. UNO offers the master's degree I want to pursue my future career in, as well as a great community," Buckels said. "I really enjoy the girls on the tennis team and the welcoming atmosphere they provide, as well as getting the chance to be coached by Coach Summitt. I can tell that this school's tennis team, and the school is what I have been looking for, and I'm looking forward to the next four years as a Maverick."
