Omaha & USD Set For Saturday Afternoon

The Basics
The Mavericks head to Vermillion, South Dakota Saturday to take on the Coyotes for their fifth game in 10 days. Tipoff between Omaha and South Dakota is set for 4 p.m. at the Sanford Coyotes Sports Center. The Mavericks look to snap a three-game skid, while the Coyotes are looking for their third straight win.

Quick Hits
• Omaha hosted the league leading SDSU squad Thursday night and battled the Jackrabbits until the end. Both teams shot over 52 percent from the field, but SDSU prevailed, 95-86.
• Five Mavericks put up double-figure scoring efforts for the second time this season. They were led by Nick Ferrarini who tallied 17 on the night. It marked his fourth game in double-digits.
• In addition to Ferrarini, Kyle Luedtke (16) and Darrius Hughes (15) scored double-figures off the bench.
• From the starting lineup, Marco Smith scored 14, while Frankie Fidler added 13.
• The Mavericks had a chance with seven seconds left to tie the game 63-63 at Kansas City and force overtime Monday. The corner three-pointer fell short sealing the win for the Roos, 64-61.
• Ferrarini led Omaha with 17 points and five boards. He also tallied his first career block in the game.
• Hughes (11) and Luedtke (10) added double-figures off the bench. Fidler grabbed a career-high seven boards.
• Omaha dropped a close game vs. North Dakota State last Saturday, 71-67. The Mavericks led by two at halftime and cut the Bison lead to two five different times in the final 20 seconds of the game, but they couldn't rally for the win.
• Ferrarini led the Mavericks with 12 points off the bench, while Fidler extended his double-figure scoring streak to five games with 10 points. Smith tallied a career-high four steals.
• Head coach Derrin Hansen enters his 17th season at the helm. He has a 251-250 career record leading the Mavericks.
• The 2021-22 season is the 109th overall in program history and the 11th of the Mavericks' Division I era. All-time, the program is 1,205-1,337.

Scouting the South Dakota Coyotes
The Coyotes sit at 9-7 overall and 2-3 in league play entering Saturday's contest. They dropped their first three league games to Oral Roberts, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State before rebounding with two straight wins vs. North Dakota and Denver.

As a team, South Dakota averages 71.9 points per game. Kruz Perrott-Hunt leads the USD squad with 14.5 ppg. He also has a team-leading 35 assists on the year. Perrott-Hunt scored a season-high 25 points twice this season, including in USD's win vs. Denver earlier this week.

The Coyotes are led by head coach Todd Lee in his fourth season at USD and 12th overall. With South Dakota, he's compiled a 56-47 record. Lee is 210-127-1 overall.

All-Time Against South Dakota
South Dakota leads the all-time series 51-46. The Coyotes took both meetings last season vs. the Mavericks. In Omaha's 97-93 loss in game two, five Mavericks posted double-figures. Ferrarini scored 15 on 5-of-7 from the field with two threes.
