Mavericks Edge BYU with Boeve's Walk-Off Single in the Ninth

OMAHA, Neb. – Mike Boeve's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth led the Mavericks to a 6-5 walk-off victory over BYU at Tal Anderson Field on Friday night.
 
The win moves the Mavericks to 14-16 on the year while BYU falls to 11-19.
 
How it Happened
  • BYU began the scoring in the second with an RBI single through the left side to grab the game's first lead.
  • The Maverick took a one-run lead in the third when BYU's right fielder misplayed Chris Esposito's single, allowing Harrison Denk and Masen Prososki to touch home.
  • Omaha doubled its lead in the fourth when Keil Krumwiede blasted his third homer of the year off the light pole in left field.
  • Leading 3-1 in the sixth, Parker Smejkal sent a 3-1 pitch over the wall down the right field line for a solo home run and his second homer of the season.
  • The Mavericks added a second run in the sixth when Krumwiede raced home from second on a failed pickoff move by Drew Zimmerman.
  • Trailing 5-1, the Cougars pieced together four runs on five hits to tie the game back up at five.
  • After a pair of scoreless half innings in the bottom of the eighth and top of the ninth, Omaha and BYU headed to the bottom of the ninth locked up at five.
  • Brett Bonar began the bottom of the ninth reaching on an error and advanced to second with no outs on a wild pitch.
  • Prososki drew a walk after a pair of strikeouts to put runners on first and second with two outs for Boeve.
  • Boeve smacked a 1-2 pitch to left that dribbled out of the glove of the leaping left fielder to send Bonar home for the game-winning run.

  • Richie Holetz had the no-decision after allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven Cougars in six innings.
  • Spencer Koelewyn, Henry Ristvedt and Tanner Howe combined to pitch the next 1.1 innings in relief.
  • Josiah Scott improved to 2-1 on the season after tossing the final 1.2 innings while not allowing a hit and striking out three.
