Timmins Hurls Complete-Game as Omaha Sweeps BYU

OMAHA, Neb. – Junior Mark Timmins tossed a complete-game and the Omaha baseball team clinched the series sweep over BYU with a 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field.

Timmins' complete-game performance is the first nine-inning complete-game outing by a Maverick pitcher since Payton Kinney's complete-game no-hitter against Ohio on March 4, 2018.

The win moves the Mavericks to 15-16 while the Cougars fall to 11-20.

How it Happened
  • A double, sac bunt and RBI groundout led to BYU's lone run of the game in the second inning.
  • The Mavericks responded in the bottom of the second when Parker Smejkal drew a walk and later scored on an RBI single by Brett Bonar.
  • Mike Boeve began the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off walk and scored on Smejkal's sac fly to give Omaha a 2-1 lead.
  • Omaha tacked on two more in the fifth when Eduardo Rosario's RBI single scored Chris Esposito and Keil Krumwiede also raced home after an errant relay throw by the BYU outfielder.
  • Timmins only allowed two BYU baserunners to reach second base after the fourth inning.
