OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team earned its first win at Tal Anderson Field with a 5-2 victory over Creighton in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
The win moves the Mavericks to 4-5 on the season while the Bluejays fall to 4-3.
How It Happened
- Creighton took a 1-0 lead off an RBI single in the top of the first.
- Harrison Denk and Mike Boeve reached on back-to-back walks before Chris Esposito's RBI single to left plated Denk to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning.
- A fielding error with the bases loaded on a ball hit by Parker Smejkal brought home Boeve before Brett Bonar grounded into a double play that allowed Esposito to score.
- Richie Holetz struck out a pair of CU batters in the third and added two more in the fourth.
- Breyden Eckhout began the fourth with a double to left center and later scored on an RBI single by Denk to grow the Maverick lead to 4-1.
- Ryan Doran drew a walk in the seventh before Adam Gadsden came in to pinch run for Doran.
- Two batters later, Bonar ripped an RBI double to right center, scoring Gadsden and building the lead to 5-1.
- Jacob Mohler replaced Jarrett Blunt in the top of the eighth, striking out the side in his first appearance in the new ballpark.
- A double and an RBI single scored Creighton's second run of the game in the ninth.
