Mavericks Fall on Friday Night at Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. – The Omaha baseball team fell 14-5 at Wichita State on Friday night at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kan.
 
The Mavericks drop to 8-10 on the season while the Shockers improve to 10-8.
 
How it Happened
  • Wichita State opened the scoring in the first with a two-run homer to grab an early lead.
  • The Shockers added to the lead with a solo shot in the second and another two-run home run in the third.
  • Mike Boeve reached on a single in the fourth before Chris Esposito launched a two-run blast over the fence in left.
  • Brett Bonar continued the scoring for the Mavericks with an RBI single to plate Ryan Doran and trim the WSU lead to 5-3 in the fourth.
  • Matt Bondarchuk reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Parker Smejkal to come home and make it a one-run game in the top of the fourth.
  • Wichita State responded with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead back to 6-4.
  • The Shockers erupted for seven runs on six hits in the fifth to blow the game open at 13-4.
  • Omaha scored its final run of the game off a solo homer by Breyden Eckhout in the eighth.
