OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team began Summit League play with a sweep over South Dakota State in a doubleheader on Friday at Tal Anderson Field. The Mavericks posted a 6-1 victory in game one before capturing a 7-1 win in the second game.
The sweep moves Omaha to 7-8 (2-0 Summit League) on the season while the Jackrabbits fall to 5-9 (0-2).
Game One: Omaha 6, SDSU 1
How it Happened
- Harrison Denk led off the first with a single before coming home on a throwing error by the SDSU catcher trying to throw out Chris Esposito stealing second.
- Omaha doubled its lead in the first when Brett Bonar's RBI single through the right side plated Esposito.
- Breyden Eckhout kept the first-inning scoring going with a sacrifice fly right, scoring Doran and giving the Mavericks a three-run lead in the first inning.
- SDSU began the second with a double and didn't record their second hit of the game until a leadoff single in the top of the seventh.
- The Jackrabbits plated their only run of the game in the seventh off of a sac fly to left.
- Ryan Doran and Bonar had back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the eighth while Eckhout tallied an RBI single later in the inning with the bases load to stretch the Maverick lead to 6-1.

- Bonar was the lone Maverick with multiple hits after going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.
- Eckhout posted two RBI while Esposito scored a team-high two runs.
- Starter Joey Machado improved to 1-2 on the year after throwing six innings of one-hit ball.

How it Happened
- Boeve reached on an infield single before Esposito blasted his fourth homer of the season to left to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead in the first.
- Esposito added to the Omaha lead in the second with an RBI single with the bases loaded, scoring Masen Prososki and stretching the lead to 3-0.
- Grant Goldston began the third with a double down the right field line before sprinting home on an RBI single through the right side by Prososki.
- The Mavericks tacked on three more runs in the fifth, beginning with back-to-back RBI singles by Denk and Boeve. Denk later scored on an RBI groundout by Doran, giving Omaha a 7-0 lead through five.
- The Jackrabbits got their first hit of the game with a double in top of the sixth.
- SDSU followed the double with a sac fly to plate its first run of the game.

- Boeve went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
- Esposito was 2-for-2 with a homer, three RBI and two walks.
- Starter Spencer Koelewyn moved to 1-1 on the season after allowing one run on two hits and striking out nine in 6.1 innings of work.
- Keil Krumwiede threw the final 0.2 innings in relief, shutting down the only two batters he faced.
