Omaha Goes 0-2 in Opening Day of Woo Pig Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Omaha softball dropped its first two games of the Woo Pig Classic Friday at Bogle Park.  Tulsa topped Omaha 8-0 in the opening game of the tournament, and Saint Francis earned a 6-2 win in the second game of the day.  The losses drop the Mavericks to 12-16.

Tulsa 8, Omaha 0 (5 innings)
The Golden Hurricanes (16-10) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a five-inning victory.  Tulsa put together four straight hits to open the bottom half of the fifth to stretch its lead to 7-0.  Sarah Briers then hit a one-out single to end the game via the run rule.  Briers and Shelby Estocado each had two hits and drove in three for the Golden Hurricane.

Natalie Mostek led Omaha at the plate with a single and a stolen base.  Savannah Fisher also had a hit for the Mavericks.

Saint Francis 6, Omaha 2
Saint Francis first baseman Madison Cabell hit a two-run homer in the third inning and a groundout in the fifth to put the Red Flash (15-12) ahead 3-0.

Both of Omaha's runs came in the bottom of the fifth.  Jessica Nelson and Kelly Pattison hit back-to-back one-out singles.  Nelson came in to score when Natalie Mostek reached on an error by the Saint Francis center fielder.  Pattison then crossed home plate on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-2.

SFU loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh.  Sierra McKee singled to drive in two runs, and a third Red Flash run scored on a Maverick error.

SFU starter Adrian Smith (4-4) then retired UNO to preserve the win.

Kelly Pattison went 2-for-4 and scored a run to lead the Mavericks at the plate.  Jessica Nelson singled and scored a run, while Aubrey Hacke added a hit.
