Omaha Sweeps Season Series With Western Illinois in 71-68 Win

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team earned its seventh home win of the season Thursday night, topping Western Illinois 71-68 at Baxter Arena.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Junior Zach Jackson's 10th 20-point scoring performance of the season came on a game-high 25 points. The Wichita, Kan., native finished 8-of-14 from the field with four 3-pointers and added five rebounds, an assist and a block.
 
Sophomore KJ Robinson posted 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with a pair of threes alongside two boards, a team-leading three assists and a steal. Sophomore JT Gibson chipped in nine points on three triples, and Daniel Meyer had eight points and two rebounds off the bench as well.
 
Freshman Matt Pile pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the night.
 
Leaders for Western Illinois
Western Illinois was led by 20 points and five assists from Kobe Webster, while Dalan Ancrum had 15 points and nine rebounds. C.J. Duff pitched in another 14 points.
 
Team Stats
Omaha finished at .464 (26-of-56) from the field with nine treys, while WIU shot at a .509 (27-of-53) clip with 11 threes. The Mavericks outrebounded the Leathernecks 34-24 and tied their season low of seven turnovers.
 
Inside the First Half
The opening 20 minutes saw three ties and eight lead changes, with WIU leading for much of the half. Jackson was the first Maverick in double figures with 13 points, shooting 4-of-6 with a trio of threes. The Leathernecks went into the break holding a 34-30 edge.
 
Inside the Second Half
Nine straight points from Robinson singlehandedly powered a 9-2 run and helped the Mavericks reclaim the lead, 50-47, with 12:32 to go.  Omaha built its largest advantage with 2:35 left, 66-59, on a Robinson three. The Leathernecks responded with a 9-1 run to go up 68-67 with 45 seconds left, but Jackson's go-ahead floater put the Mavericks in control again at 69-68. After a Jackson block stopped WIU on the other end, Hahn added a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to seal the win.
 
Noting Tonight's Game
-Omaha is now 8-17 (3-6 Summit League) on the season, including 7-2 at Baxter Arena.
-Robinson's 18 points were his highest scoring total since 25 vs. Tennessee Tech on Nov. 24.
-Jackson has now passed the 900 career points milestone.
