OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team secured its eighth home win Saturday night in front of a record crowd of 4,106, defeating Fort Wayne 90-85 at Baxter Arena.
Leaders for Omaha
Junior
Mitch Hahn exploded for a season-high 21 points to lead Omaha, finishing 5-of-8 from the field with a trio of 3-pointers and an 8-of-10 effort at the line. He added six rebounds and three assists for the night.
Senior
Daniel Norl followed with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal, going a perfect 7-of-7 at the stripe. Junior
Zach Jackson also finished in double figures with 16 points, team highs of seven boards, four assists and two blocks, plus a steal.
Senior
Daniel Meyer added a big performance off the bench, posting nine points, seven rebounds, an assist and a block while hitting 4-of-6 from the field. Sophomore
KJ Robinson matched him with another nine points, and freshman
Ayo Akinwole pitched in six points, five rebounds and three assists.
Leaders for Fort Wayne
John Konchar scored a game-high 22 points with five 3-pointers, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Bryson Scott (19), Kason Harrell (16) and Xzavier Taylor (10) also finished in double figures.
Team Stats
Omaha shot .500 (27-of-54) to Fort Wayne's .457 (32-of-70). The Mavericks finished at .480 (12-of-25) from long range to the Mastodons'.385 (15-of-39) and also shot .727 (24-of-33) at the line to their .500 (6-of-12).
Additionally, Omaha outrebounded Fort Wayne, 38-33.
Inside the First Half
Fort Wayne built a 14-point lead eight minutes in, but the Mavericks used a 9-2 run from 5:41 to 3:09 to erase it. A key Meyer layup knotted the game at 42-42, and a Norl three tied it again at 45-45. The Mastodons hit two more buckets to take a 49-45 edge by the break.
Inside the Second Half
Fort Wayne led for the majority of the second half, but a triple from Akinwole put the Mavericks ahead 72-71 with 5:10 to go. The lead flipped again, however, and Omaha trailed by five with less than four minutes to play. But the Mavericks responded with a 16-2 run to go up 88-79 with 12 seconds left, finishing it off by the 90-85 final tally. Hahn and Norl accounted for 14 of the Mavericks' 15 points over the last 2:35.
