HAMMOND, La. – The Omaha softball team won a pair of extra-inning games on day two of the Lion Classic II on Saturday at North Oak Park.

The Mavericks opened the day with an 11-9 eight-inning win over Southeastern Louisiana.  In the nightcap, Omaha came from behind for a 6-5 eight-inning victory over Detroit Mercy.

In the opener, Emma Dargy hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give UNO the win.  Sydney Hampton (3-1) threw 6.0 innings of relief to earn the win.

In game two, Hailey Bartz singled home the game-winning run in the top of the eighth as Omaha completed a come from behind victory.  Hampton picked up her second win of the day in relief, throwing 4.2 innings.

The Mavericks wrap up tournament play on Sunday morning against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  First pitch is set for 10 a.m. on field three at North Oak Park.  No live stats or video will be available.

Omaha 11, Southeastern Louisiana 9 (8 innings)
Southeastern struck first against starter Halley Jones in the bottom of the first inning.  Mahalia Gibson singled home Jaquelyn Ramon to put the Lions ahead 1-0.  Omaha came right back with four runs in the top of the second.  Three SLU errors helped UNO take a 4-1 lead.  Faith Romero singled up the middle to score pinch runner Lexi Burchfield.  Bartz then fouled out, but Hampton beat the throw home to tie the game.  Dargy and Romero each scored on wild pitches as Omaha built a 4-1 lead.

Southeastern Louisiana batted around in a five-run frame in the bottom half of the second.  An Ella Manzer single made it a two-run game.  Kinsey Nichols picked up an RBI as a pitch hit her.  Gibson then singled to right center to drive in two.

In the top of the third, Hampton laced an RBI single down the right-field line to cut the lead to 6-5.  Two innings later, Crystal Pablo then roped a two-run single to center that put the Mavericks back in front, 7-6.

SLU responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Gibson led off the inning with a solo shot to left.  Late in the inning, Manzer hit an RBI double to left that gave the Lions an 8-7 advantage.

Down to its last out in the top of the seventh, Pablo hit a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall to force extra innings.  Dargy then launched a three-run shot to left that gave the Mavericks an 11-8 advantage.

SLU took advantage of a UNO error in the bottom of the eighth to get a run back, but Omaha held on for the 11-9 victory.

Omaha 6, Detroit Mercy 5 (8 innings)
UNO took the lead in the top of the first inning versus the Titans.  Demi Dobbs walked with two outs and moved to second on Emily Klosterman's single to left.  Pablo then hit a two-run double to right center to put Omaha on top, 2-0.

The lead did not last long, however.  Courtney Gilbert reached on an error, and then Savvy Ferstle hit a two-run shot over the left field fence to tie the game, 2-2.

Detroit Mercy took the lead in the second inning.  Jordan Manno hit an RBI single through the left side, and Sydney Pollock worked a bases-loaded walk for a 4-2 lead.

UNO tied things at 4-4 in the top of the third.  Jessica Nelson led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Nelson then advanced to third on a groundout.  Klosterman was hit by a pitch and stole second to put two runners in scoring position.  Hampton cleared the bases with a single to left.
The Titans reclaimed the lead in the fifth as Pollak hit an RBI double to right.
For the second straight game, the Mavericks were down to their last out.  Nelson was hit by a pitch and moved to third on Dobbs single.  Pinch runner Taylor Conkling stole second before Klosterman walked.  On the play, Nelson scampered home on a wild pitch to tie things up, 5-5.

Sarrah Mains was placed on second to start the Omaha eighth inning and eventually scored on a single down the right-field line by Bartz.
