OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's tennis team topped South Dakota State Friday, 6-1, at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. With the win, Omaha improves to 5-11 (1-1 Summit League) on the season.
Omaha claimed the doubles point to start the afternoon by taking two of the three matches. The pair of sophomore Kylie Boyer and senior Kenzie Hill defeated Molly Crum and Elif Gabb, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot to give the Mavericks the advantage. Omaha secured the doubles point after the No. 2 pair of freshmen Emily Behling and Rylee Tucker defeated Maria Laura Velazco and Emily Van Dijk, 6-3.
In singles competition, Omaha took five of the six matches to earn the 6-1 victory. Sophomore Janelle Wilson gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead by defeating Morgan Brower, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot. Omaha extended its lead to 3-0 after Boyer, competing at the No. 3 position, topped Crum, 6-0, 6-2. The Mavericks officially claimed the match when Tucker beat Laura Romero, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot, and Behling gave Omaha another point after defeating Velazco, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, at No. 3 spot. Omaha's final point came when Michelle Lo rallied to down Iasmin Rosa, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3, at No. 1.
“Today was a great start to the weekend for us,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “I felt as though the energy and focus today was at a season high. The key was getting off to a great start and carrying that high level of play into singles competition."
Omaha continues Summit League play on Sunday, April 2, hosting Oral Roberts at 9:30 a.m. at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
